  1. I've always been of the understanding that gouramis and betas werent that good together mainly because they occupy the same swimming space and betas are territorial, however I would think this was more applicable to male betas rather than females. In saying that fish are like people in the same way they decide that they just dont like someone  even though fish have generalised natures there is always that one that goes against the grain I agree with the suggestion of taking her out for a couple of days and then putting her back in as to be the 'new' fish, but even then this may not work... SO GOODLUCK!
  2. Thanks for that link it was really inetersting, biotope is the way to go as far as keeping these delicate little fish. When we had them we kept them in a low lit darkish tank with peat at the bottom of the tank and they seemed to do fine for about a couple of weeks but then they just ended up dying and we couldnt figure it out, I cant remember the stats of the tank now, but possibly it was because the water just wasnt soft enough, I think it probably was around a pH of 6.0 and thats still probably too high , even though its advised between 4 - 6.5 I would be verging on 5.5 if not lower at a guess. Also quite interesting to learn they come from nutrient poor water. Thanks!
  3. ohhh thats sad, any idea why that is?
  4. :bounce: <-- they kind of look like these but they dont have eyes and arms and bounce around and are a little furrier. Wondering if these are available in NZ? If anyone has heard of them and knows where to get them, as far as I am aware they arent, again we used to be able to get these in the UK and as far as I know they werent that common at the time as we used to resell them on ebay for quite a bit. Any info would be appreciated - Thanks! Check the picture they are beautiful and look absolutely fantastic in the aquarium, my plec used to just rest on them for hours. http://www.myfishtank.net/reviews/data/ ... -large.jpg
  5. http://www.fishdeals.com/anabantids/gou ... ourami.jpg Hey, Thought I would ask if anyone has or has had chocolate gouramis, and if so where did you get them from? We had some in the UK, found them quite hard to keep, but would love to give it a try again, as they are just beautiful little fish. Mind you there are plenty of fish I would love to have again  Just wanting to know how available they are as they didnt seem to be a common fish over there either.
  6. Oh bugga I wonder if there is any chance we can reform it? Do you know the person who ran it? Maybe I could help them out in some way.
  7. oh thats cool I was asking about a club in NP if anyone knew of a fish club here? Thanks for the WB! hehe its great to be back here NZ is much nicer than the UK, 3 years living there was enough for me! The best thing about it was the amount and variety of tropical fish available there, and cheaper tanks!
  8. hehe Thanks I'm from NZ originally just moved to UK for a few years with my partner who is english waikato born and bred
  9. Hey I would like to know if anyone knows details of a New Plymouth/Taranaki fish club? that'd be great. Thanks!
  10. Hey everone!! :bounce: I Just wanted to introduce myself, its great to see a NZ fish keeping forum. My names Tammy I am 25 my partner is Ric he is 33 and we have both been keeping freshwater tropicals for about 5 years now, at one stage we had 5 Tanks going when we used to live in the UK, which included a 6ft Tank in our bedroom that had large silver dollars, gouramis and plecs, a 4ft full of cichlids, two 3ft tanks with what in it I dont remember now just standard community fish, and a large corner tank with community and one shell dwelling cichlid. We currently only have one tank now since being back in NZ it is a 4ft, we have 1 redspot plec, 1 silver shark, 3 lampeye tetras, 2 clown loaches, 5 neons, and a Male Beta called Barry  but we plan on getting more sometime soon, who knows when, possibly another tank is starting to spark our interest, we are keen to have some cichlids again. So thats me, I look forward to learning some new things and sharing my wisdom.
