  1. Yah at first I thought so too, because those seen to be the standard size / thickness of premade tanks. I guess the maximum safety factor is only necessary when you try to prevent glass breaking from a huge earth quake right ? lol.
  2. Sorry, forgot to mention that, 10mm for big tank and 6mm for small tank
  3. Hi again folks, I've just been reading through the safety factor article and using the calculator for fish tanks, and after this, I have deemed all my fishtanks unsafe ! I have 2, one is 1220x440x600h braced all sides with center bracing, and a 600x330x490h with bracing on sides only. Using the calculator, it seens my big tank is nowhere near 3.8, and the small one is almost 3.8 but only if braced all sides, which it isnt. Is it in my best interest to not fully fill the fishtank for safety ? and if so would I just use the desired water level height as the panel height when calculating safety factor ?
  4. Attached a picture of the fish. Also my other severum, does it look like its got hole in the head ? there are pin prick sized red dots over its head.
  5. I have a gold severum that was constantly bullied by a bigger one, and it has faint dust like black scars all over its body. I have since separated the 2 fishes, but it doesn't seen to be going away. I thought it might be ammonia poisoning in the water but all other fishes seen to be doing well, and water tests fine. I do remember that half a year ago I used a whitespot cure in the fishtank, but not sure if it maybe the cause. The fish is otherwise healthy moving and eating. I was hoping it'd go away and heal by itself (I've also used some medication for healing) but it's been like this for half a year. Is there anything else I can do or be concerned about ?
  6. Hmm just out of interest is AR620T actually a glass aquarium or acrylic ? I thought it's acrylic cause of the way it shatters but my friend thought it's glass.
  7. Just took off the bottom glass, called glazier to get a quote for normal glass was happywith the quote, but now found out the side panels and front don't align up properly so there will be a big gap unless I take the whole thing apart and try realign them... just gonna put it on $1 auction toward my next fishtank. Was looking to get one not so tall anyway. Thanks for all the advice guys.
  8. I guess a 6mm glass would be the way to go ? just called some suppliers today they could do it not too expensively so might give that a go.
  9. Got someone with a table saw, I've been reading a little info on the net about cutting perspex, but I dont really like my chances lol. Will have to wait till tomorrow anyway and call around.
  10. Nah my didn't break until I try to do something with it. It was leaking from the bottom, and since the frame was glued to the bottom glass I had to take that out to do a leak test, and during all this process it broke. I am keen on giving livingart's method a try but without any power tools that might be abit difficult. I am gonna call around see if anyone cut glass to fit if not I am just gonna get a similar sized fishtank for $75 or something and mod the old filter to fit.
  11. Thanks for the great idea ! Just called placemakers and bunnings none of them sell acrylic / perspex sheets, and I read up more about cutting perspex, doesn't seen to be my cup of tea lol. It will be available for free then in a few weeks if I cant find anyway to fix it easily
  12. Very much cracked all over, think needs replacement glass ? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/Buffos/Image00001.jpg
  13. Just wondering if anyone know of someone who could do it, I was told not, because of the bowed front shape of the glass that is required. If too costly to fix or not possible looks like will have to $1 auction it !
  14. Hey cool ! thank you for the help, I am hoping to setup mine asap ! I also noticed that an aqua clear hob filter 50 advertises to have 757 litre/hour flow rate. I wonder if I can get away without a power head if I use one of those filters instead.
  15. Just wondering if anyone has one for a long term without using protein skimmer, and what kind of filter media they put in the filtration compartment ? I am thinking of making a nano reef with one and use filterpads and chemibond as filter media. It will be fish only after it's setup or until I can get a cheap deltec hob skimmer or something similar.
