A friend has just offered me a fish tank with these live bearers and quite a few off spring.
I have looked them up on the net and was wondering if they are worth keeping?
Can't seem to find much about them.
Any pics or thoughts re these fish greatly appreciated
Well she is no longer with us and decided that she needed to *see the inner workings of the filter* and died.
Yes i do feed mine peas about once a week along with blood worms,Flake food, and tubifix worms. So they do have a varied diet.
Could be just one of those things that happen.
Did a 50% water change today.
No others in the tank are sick so all good
She is still with us. Will see if I can get a pic of her to post. Not sure what to do. Just let nature take its course? Was watching her now and yes she does seem to be going round in circles now around the back of the tank
No it doesn't. Swims round in the tank. At first it was head down and finding it hard to get to the correct swimming position. Now seems to flop on its side and has trouble getting upright. No longer a beautiful orange colour. The colour seems to have all drained away.More of a grey colour now
I notice that one of my fish is loosing its colour and a couple of days ago it was swimming tail up. It seems now to be swimming on its side more. I did try and catch it to issolate it but man could it move!!
I have read through the forums and can't find anything to describe this.
I went to the lfs and enquired what it could be. Was told to try tonic salt rather than anything else as it could be a swim bladder problem. All the other fish in the tank are fine. This morning she is still alive but don't expect her to be there this afternoon.
I do regular water changes etc. The tank is well planted. Good lighting.
Any ideas please?
Update on my fishes.
Treating them for white spot and putting something else in as well that the LFS recommended. It is in a Blue bottle and has Aloe Vera in it.
They are looking much better.
I have lost 2 fish so far.
My Platy has quite a few spots but is handling it. One of my Neons has a few spots but not many.
The one that had a lot they have all come off *hatched* and she is doing well.
It is now day 17 for my *Family*
Tropical fish are new to me.
Yes I had read about the nitrogen cycle. Rather complex. But I am getting the hang of it.
When i got goldfish I was told to *age* the tank..but no explanation given!!
But sometimes I need to ask questions to make sure I am on the right track.
So it would be a good idea to add some tonic salt as well?
I am due to do a water change on Fri/Sat..can i still go ahead with this ..or wait a few extra days?
It will be my second water change while cycling....
Just did a more thorough check and a few more have these *white spots*
the one I described has the most of it. The rest have a few spots mainly on the end of their tails and a few on their bodies.
I want to treat them before it gets too bad and I start to loose fish.
What about some tonic salt?
I can't get anything till after work tomorrow...
I have only had these fish for 11 days and would hate to start loosing them
Sorry don't have a camera but did look up pics of Ich or white spot as they call it and that is what it definitely looks like.
Would i carry on and do my water change on Friday while I am treating them?..or risk it and keep treating them and not change water...
I have started a tropical tank about 11 days ago and just noticed that one of the ? Guppies has what looks like air bubbles..but white on her...she is the only one in the tank with it?
What do i do? this is the first day i have noticed it
It is a tiny one. (Silver with black tips on fins) I was told it would be okay in my tank. They were in the same tank in the shop. Why does it need to go? He hasn't been harrasing any one in the tank.
The tank is 109 ltrs
I have got a shark, silver Dollar ( I think that is what it is), 1 platy, 3 guppies, cat fish, neon tetra (4) , another sort of tetra, swordtail,
I think that is all that is in there at the moment while it is cycling
Yes I was wondering esp since it is in a little bit of water now..and when I put it into the tank it will be a bigger body of water so would the change be as marked? I have only been soaking it since yesterday. I am in day 9 of cycling my tank. haven't lost any fish yet.
Sorry I am sure my first post didn't really make that much sense.
Hi am wondering what I can do or just leave it?
When I set up my tank the PH is 7.6 I tested our local water and that is 7.6
My fish seem happy enough and have no loses.
I brought a piece of drift wood ( I thought it would make a wonderful addition to my tank!) and put it into water to get all the *brown* stuff out of it. It is in just enough water to cover it. Anyhow out of curiosity I tested the water and it came down to 6.0 (which is acid)
I am not sure if to use it now. But would it make a lot of difference when I put it into the tank would it take that water to 6 as well?
Sorry am very new to this and don't really like putting chemicals into my tank if I can help it
Hi everyone
I have just ventured into the world of Tropical fish keeping. I have a Jebo tank. 109ltrs. Have just started up my tank a week ago and the *Family* are doing well.
I am used to keeping fish and have had Goldfish for years. Plus this time 1 put in a mountain minnow. i have since found out that they like to *school* so have been on the look out for more but as yet unsuccessful in finding any companions for *him*
I thoroughly enjoy reading this forum and it is amazing how much knowledge is on these pages.
