  1. surely you would have the same chance of winning as there are the same number of combinations as every other week, you would however have more chance of sharing the money with someone else I guess...maybe I am wrong though as Maths wasn't never my best subject. Whatever though I got caught up in lottery fever, bought a ticket even though i normally don't bother and ended up $11 poorer for the pleasure! The dream was nice while it lasted though
  2. Now I didn't know that, I will have to remember that one  When I am stressed I like to turn my music up and sing along at the top of my voice! Thank goodness for detached houses and a husband on late shifts
  3. That sucks, I hope they find them quickly. I love lizards, although the couple of times we have been to the zoo I have wondered whether they actually have any as they always seem to be hiding!
  4. I wish I could get photo's of mine, the little blighters won't stay put long enough for me to snap them though just end up with some very pretty looking blurs!
  5. we have some dwarf neon rainbows and they are lovely, really actuve and pretty to look at and so funny when it comes to feeding time as they nip in and out of the other fish stealing all the food!
  6. we dont' have plecos in our tank so maybe they are muckier than our fish. We have a gourami, some neon tetras, a couple of dwarf chain loachs and a couple of danios.
  7. we left our tank for a month and it was ok, we had to do regular water changes when we got back for a couple of weeks but things didn't go too haywire. I think as long as you make sure that everything is in tip top condition before you go you would be fine if you can't find anyone to help.
  8. most of the plants in our main tank do ok but there is one corner by the heater which they just don't do very well at all and I am wondering whether it is the heater killing them? We've tried a few different plants there (not sure of names) and they all die. Thinking about sticking an artifical one in this corner (the rest would be real). Does anyone have any thoughts that might help us avoid this though as I like real plants much more.
  9. umm might try that, I have a few shells around with nothing to do as I like picking them up at the beach (much to my husbands amusement!), I guess it will give the fish something interesting to look at as well!
  10. We have a Nikon coolpix P1 (I think!) and we just recently bought a housing for it for when we go sea kayaking down in Fiordland, hubby loves snorkling though so he will no doubt try it out doing that at some point as well. I think our housing cost about $250 in the end (got it from US). We wanted to get a housing for our Canon DSLR but that was going to be a stupid price plus I'd cry if the camera got damaged! You can buy camera dry bags which are designed to take in the water which are cheaper but I'm not sure what depth you can take them too.
  11. we tested the tap water last night and came out at a pH of 7. The tank water dopes slowly seem to be going back to normal, now at 5.75 thanks to every other day water changes, fingers crossed it keeps heading in the right direction. Still have no idea what could have caused the drop though which is a pain as then I don't know what to do to stop it happening again :-?
  12. We haven't tested it recently, I'll do that tomorrow when we get back from the rugby just to make sure its not gone funny. Mind you we have two other tanks and the pH in them are fine so it makes me thik it is something in the tank rather than the water we are putting in.
  13. The tank is a 60l one, I'm not sure of the filter, its one of the ones that hang of the back with the inlet in the tank, we are pretty good with our filter maintainance though, cleaning one half one month and then leaving it for a month or so before cleaning the other half so we don't wipe out all the bacteria in one go. I know we aren't perfect with our regime but it has worked up till now and we haven't changed anything we do to suddenly cause a change and prior to the last week the pH has always been 7-7.5.
  14. Can anyone offer any suggestions, done another test today and now at 5.5 so slightly better but still not good. The other two tanks are fine so really think it has to be something going on in this particular tank. :-?
  15. The tank has been up and running for almost a year now and the pH has always been steady until recently. We have 6 neon tetras, 1 dawrf gourami, 3 dwarf chain loaches, 2 zebra danios and 5 neon dwarf rainbows. No wood or anything in the tank to cause any problems, decoration takes the form of some terracota pots. Water changes are done through syphon to help keep gravel clean as well, not sure of pH from the tap to be honest but unless the council has made some serious changes to the water in Hamilton recently would this really have such a big effect?
  16. Hello, Haven't been on for a while as everything had been running nice and smoothly but something is definitely up with our tank. The pH has gone haywire, its always been 7.5-7 but recently dropped to 6, I've been doing a 25% water change every other day and today when I tested the water the pH has dropped to 5! I have no idea what could have caused this. We do appear to have lost a couple of fish over the last month and no bodies have been found but the amonia and nitrite levels have stayed at 0 so I'm not sure if it is that or not. Can anyone help In the meantime I am off to do another water change
  17. Err am in work and can't remember what it is called. It comes in a white bottle with a red label and is one of those treats all things. It turns the water an amazing shade of blue! Will look at redosing tonight, the bottle doesn't really give any redosing instructions but the blueness is nearly clear out of the water so I think it is time for another dose and see how he does. I really want him to live now as well as he is really fighting! The really annoying thing is we now have white spot in the tropical tank  Going to be very careful not to use the same stuff in that tank and our Betta tank as i don't want Dave getting spots
  18. Ok we must have the hardest fish on the planet! He has been pretty lethargic, spending a lot of time sitting on the bottom so we assumed he was on his way out dispite trying to fix him. We went away over the weekend so left him in the hospital tank expecting the worst when we got home. He's still alive! He isn't right but I can't believe that he is still going. I am guessing we should think about redosing him as he still looks a bit fungusy in the mouth although it does appear to be getting better. He has some funny little flappy bits of skin under his mouth which I'm not really sure about though, sure they weren't there before the weekend. I'm still not convinced that he will make it but he is certainly fighting!
  19. mystery solved, upon looking at the goldfish yesterday his mouth definitely looked fluffy...he has fungus. He has now been moved to the hospital tank and medicated...the poor thing though, the medication has turned the fungus a bluey/grey colour...it looks really freaky! Fingers crossed he begins to recover :-?
  20. His mouth looks white inside (the same colour as some of our gravel) and he is constantly looking like he is trying to coug something up. Is there anything we can do or does anyone else have any suggestions of what could be happening to him?
  21. Rufus's wife here! Thanks for the tip re: the filter, the lovely lady at the lfs recommended a sponge filter for the tank so that is what we have now! Rufus also squeezed the filter media from the old filter into the tank...it's good to know we are doing some things right! :bounce:
  22. I thought the 6th was a Thursday :-? If it is the 6th then me and hubby (Rufus) will try and come along :bounce:
  23. I did wonder about vinegar as it is natural although a good rinse out would still be needed obviously
