  1. i like these ones the have wide spacing so can fit multiple timers or plugs with transformers built in

they are cheaper at bunnings than dick smith though

+1, the HPM ones are the ones this sparky uses

Anything but the cheapest dirtiest ones should be fine. I like the big 6 plug switched ones.

Surge protected boards are a waste of money, the surge protection in them doesn't last and very few people have any equipment in their tank that would be bothered by a surge.

And I strongly agree with this, Surge protection for fish tank equipment waste of time.

  2. Well I'm not sure on albinos but I could do a trio or to of Aphyosemion Bitaeniatum or Aphyosemion australe.

Yes they will breed in a 40lt tank its what I used. Breeding them is fairly simple, they will lay around 5-10 eggs a day, except on weekends  . They will lay in javamoss, plant roots or a mop made of wool. then you just have to remove the eggs and place in a small container of water. once the eggs hatch in 10-14 days feed them micro worms or BBS and your away.

    Don't think I missed anything.

  3. If it's flickering then it's likely you wont here the heater switch on and off because the bit that makes the noise wont actually be moving it will be the contacts arcing. A heater is one thing you don't want to muck round with cause they can kill your fish pretty quickly, I'd replace it as soon as you can. Also it's a great idea to use 2 heaters that are 1/2 the size you need that way if one fails things don't go pear shaped so fast.

I doubt that the contacts in the heater are arcing they normally fall open.

Quick question, other then the flicker does the heater operation seem normal?

  4. Making the assumptions that your heater has a neon indicator bulb (Orange glow to it). And that you can't Hear the thermostat clicking on and off with this flicker. No I don't think you have to worry. It is normal for these lamps to have a irregular flicker to them, as they are effected by visible light, radio active sources, cosmic rays......bah bah bah.

As for the lights effecting them, a couple of things I can think of at the moment are. The voltage change for the lights is effecting the indicator, normally this would have the opposite effect to the one you describe tho. Or your eyes are playing tricks on you :P, so when the lights are on the illusion that it is not flickering is created.

  5. well after having to re-silicone a tank that was full and the associated emptying temp re-homing of fish I would suggest that if you have any suspensions of the silicone's integrity redo it now while it is empty.
