  1. my gold severum has been doing this too but not all the time and does not swim up just looks up at the top of the water from the bottom of the tank tho i think mine is just checking the guppies out or maybe lonely and wants a partner.

I have not worried about it cause she dont do it all day long and is still eating etc :)

  2. I am considering getting a pair or 2 and giving it a go.. But I am 50/50 with the fact that normal blues keel over so easily these guys would be more inbred so weaker.. And also the fact these are a new and sort after strain internationally I wouldn't put it past the breeders to have sterilized them before sending to control the market..

Think ill wait to see if they can be bred :P you do it ryan then ill follow :P

  3. i was reading about that a while ago

the males are like a little worm if i remember right? And they leech themselves onto the female and live off her, and fertilise her eggs. Such strange goings on :o

Glad im not an angler with the dam male stuck to me for life lol no offence guys just we need a break sometimes :P:P

  4. Hi and welcome

i had a go at breeding them once it was a while back but from what i remember he wraps around the female to release the eggs looks awesome, u see the eggs drop as well as her when hes done lol , he goes down picks up the eggs and places them in the nest and then gets the female again does this over and over, u will see when its over she will be hiding and looking a bit stressed, but best to have somewhere for her to hide just in case your not around when they are done and this can take some time. Remove her when its over and he will tend to the eggs.

Yes he can kill her, i had mine in a jar so he could see her but not touch her , waited till he had build a nest and they were showing off to each other then let her out , it happened pretty fast he was wrapping around her eggs were going every where:)

might need others to give more info as i say it was a long time ago when i tried.

  5. Hi

Some of you may remember me from a long time ago breeding the gold rams and raised about 18 to adulthood but very sad ended up loosing them all so am on the look out for more so please pm me if you are selling:).

I kind of lost interest in the fish hobbie due to so much going on with kids and family issues but now im getting back in to it.

still have some of my old fish , guppies , shark, severum , catfish , clown loaches, kuhlies.

gonna be having a change around and setting up more tanks if i can find the room with all the kids and there stuff around lol.

Looking at setting up a planted tank never really had much sucess with plants but willing to try again :)

looking forward to learning more and sharing what i have learned :)

  6. I will try and put a pic up later just having problems with the cam think i need a new one .

My tank consists of a bit of wood with jave moss on , a sponge filter, an air stone , flat rock , terracotta pot lying down , heater , temp gage.

The parents tend to eat the eggs tho you maybe lucky and they wont mine got to the second day then ate them.

I guess if the parents were able to it with out eating them then i guess they would pick of the funus ones and do a great drop at fanning them.

  7. I think one male and one female should be fine , I had a pot and flat rock in with mine and they choose the pot.

    Is this normal golds?

are you going to leave the parents in there?

If not , put an air stone in there and meth blue and cover the tank up.

Temp up to 30 tho mine was on 28

once free swimming i fed mine on mirco worms, egg yolk etc.

    Hope that helps

  8. Alot of the time the parents will eat there own eggs that why alot of people raise the eggs them selves, I dont think they will have chance of hatching with all them fish in the tank really you need them in a tank by them selves or remove the eggs thats if you see them lay them etc.
