Wow - I havent been here in a longtime! !
Still havent moved into my own place yet either
Altho that is now right around the corner, with applications of preapproval happening next week
Looking foward to setting up a BIG tank once it all happens.
Site and forum is looking great

I used to sort and stack boxes,
but now i just get to drive over them on my forklift,
before handing them to the courier driver to take the blame for it being broken
-
Id also suggest tipping the food into the lid,
then from the lid into the tank. Saves over feeding again
-
Was out at the airport waiting on the shuttle truck,
and was wondering why it was taking so long ... now i know !!

We've got a setup and 2 adult turtles (1M and 1F),
that have laid eggs before, but didnt hatch when we put them in sand,
and other few she got to them before we noticed them
Filter is a Fluval 204, tank is about 90Lx30Wx50Hcm with a shelf.
Has a turtle light. Couple tins of food. Also has a stand.
They probably could do with a larger tank or indoor/outdoor encloser.
Fancy a drive up to Christchurch to pick it all up, myloni ???
If not, anyone in ChCh interested ???

Hi all,
Im planning to have a go at some selective breeding,
and am going to make / buy some tanks.
I have mocked up a 30x30x20cm tank outta cardboard ,
and it looks big enough for 3-4 guppys.
Looks like enough room to fit a small heater, airfilter and a cup with
gravel and a plant. Decided to go bare bottom for eaze of cleaning.
( from what ive read )
Will tanks this size be big enough ??
(Only got a couple corners of the house to use)
-
Albino guppys?@! Like to see a pic of them if ya can show !
-
I would be pretty keen on joining a NZ Guppy Club,
when i eventually get into my own place
-
Mine do exactly the same thing
Even see the odd scale floating away, then getting eaten!!!
I had 6 for about 7 months, 1 died a few days ago
Not to sure why either, water properties look all fine.
Altho i have just done a big clean of the tank a few days ago.
Cool fish, but they seem to hide alot,
apart from when they are chasing each other or feeding time !!
More i think about it, i want to sell/give them away,
and get what i originally wanted in the tank ..... Guppies!!!
-
Well, yes this is an old thread dug up from way back then,
but i thought id give a little up date on my tank
The 6 original penguin tetras are still doing fine ,
and have put on some weight
I also added 4 albino catfish and they are doing great too
Before i got the catfish, i did have a couple of algae eaters for about 2 weeks,
but they died not long after i put the catfish in
Its had the 6 tetras and 4 albinos for the last 3 or 4 months, and things are going well
So, now im looking forward to moving out into my own place and getting a few more tanks up and running
-
Ahh so thats why my 6 penguin tetras dont hang together all the time
I just thought they didnt like each other
-
Nice lookin guppies there
-
Cool
Thanks for all the hints/tips eh
Wont be adding much more to this tank, maybe except for a few catfish.
Already looking foward to buying another tank
-
The 6 are still good
Nitrites have risen and starting to fall already.
Nitrates starting to show up. Still no sign of Ammonia.
Some green algae starting to grow too.
Going good so far 8)
-
Yes, i guessed the cycle has only just started,
but i have been getting clear ( 0 ) results for the Ammonia...
So, i went and got 4 more penguin tetras this weekend
One of the original 2 has become quite a bully !!!!
Will be keeping a very good eye on the conditions,
prolly test the water every day for the week or two.
I have also put in a air filter to put a bit more oxygen into the tank,
and the extra filtering helps too i guess
No, i never did add the cycle stuff, altho i do have some.
-
Yea the water here is pretty good aye 8)
Ill be off to the lfs tomorrow morning then
-
Thats what i started to think after reading thru stuff on the net.
Tank is 61cmx36cmx31cm, with two 4 cm penguin tetras.
Time to go get some more tanks mates maybe ?
-
Tested again today, NH³, NO² and NO³ were all clear ( 0 ), Ph still at 7.5 :-?
Sure, its only been 7 days since i added the 2 fish,
but i thought there would be some sorta readings by now ??!!
