  1. I've just been though all the results and tried to match everyone's name to their profile to get the location, which wasn't too hard because I know some of you or you have your name in your signature or as your username.

So I just have these last few that I need the location/home town for. I won't put your real name on here in case you don't want that, so I will just use the holiday destination. Just reply on here or PM me if yours is in the list below and let me know your location. Then I'll be able to figure out the distance from your location to your destination :D

    - Went to Napier, Hawke's Bay. Stayed at friends place.

    - Went to Tauranga and stayed at camping ground.

    - Went to Waipaua forest and stayed at DOC cabin.

    - Went to Hanmer and sayed at Hanmer Resort.

    - Went to Whiritoa, Coromandel Peninsular.

    - Went to Wellington and stayed at Bay Plaza.

    - Went to Rotorua and stayed at Capri Court Motor Inn.

    - Went to Great Barrier Island.

    - Went to Christchurch and stayed at auntie's place.

    - Went to Tauranga and stayed at friends place.

    - Went to Mangawhai and stayed at friends place.

    - Went to Christchurch and stayed at hotel.

    - Went to Dunedin and stayed at motel.

    - Went to Moeraki and stayed at the camping ground.

Again thanks for all the help with the survey guys :)

  2. You seem to be offended by my post which I apologize for, it wasn't my intention to doubt your taste hence my "each to their own". Meaning, I feel I have a valid opinion but rather than argue I will let you also have yours. I was only sharing my opinion nothing more.

I'm not offended by your comment. I just think that it is rather pointless to go round saying "That's not a nice tank" where the point in the thread is just to share photos of different tanks so people get an idea of the diversity of different types of aquascaping styles and it is just interesting to see a whole bunch of photos of lots of different tanks. What might be the best tank on the web to you might be different to what someone else likes. I am sorry if I misinterpreted your comment.

I also query how you know they used a top quality camera as the image has no metadata.

Although it doesn't state exactly what camera they used for the shot, some of the photos in the portfolio are on ADG's flickr page with the exif data, including the type of camera used. Take this shot for example - http://www.flickr.com/photos/fxwazeter/ ... hotostream

So I think it would be pretty safe to assume that they used a similar type of camera for the photos of the discus tank as well.

Not sure why you laugh it is actually really quite obvious, a quick look at the tonal graph would suggest the photographer used the wrong settings for that tank shot. Regardless of camera quality.

The second shot I used as a comparison shows a pretty good balanced graph considering the halides are shining right into the camera. ( also from the ada site ). This is very hard to achieve, by no means perfect but I am sure you get the idea.

The photos may have been edited in Photoshop afterwards, which is not a bad thing because when used properly editing software is a great tool to touch up photos and achieve good results. So that may explain why the tonal graph is a bit off.

If you don't like the photos then you are entitled to your opinion, but I still think that they are awesome and I certainly wouldn't be complaining if I took something like that :)

The bright yellow highlights on the plants gives it away among a few others.

I guess as a comparison you could say to the untrained eye a sick fish can look healthy. It is not till after years of experience you can see things like that instantly.

However based on what I have seen of Joe's photography I am surprised he didn't pick it up.

I don't pick up on stuff like tonal graphs. I just fidddle around with the settings until I get an image that looks good to me, and then I might make a few more adjustments during post processing if I think it is necessary.

  3. Lol poor photography :rolfl:

The point in this thread is for people to post what they think are good-looking tanks. Like you said, each to their own. When I look through this thread there are some tanks that I personally don't like very much, but it is interesting to see what other people's tastes are and what they think is a nice tank. Everyone does not share the same set of guidelines for what they think is a good tank.

And if this tank is just nice, I wonder what that made my tanks when I had them set up... :slfg:

  4. Those sorts of things are not available in NZ. There is not enough demand in the country for products like ADA.

Go with Seachem though, it's probably about the best quality plant substrate you can get here.

  5. Beautiful aquascaping and awesome plant growth !drool: :hail: One of the best planted tanks in NZ I reckon

When you go to replace your light tubes, I've heard a 50/50 combo of Arcadia Freshwater Pro and Plant Pro looks really good. Just a thought to keep in mind :D

  6. Today at school we had an "Achievement Day", which is where most of the Year 11, 12 and 13 students have the day off and those who want to resit an exam to get a better mark, or who need one-on-one help on a particular subject, are able to go in to school and do so.

I just had a Maths exam resit so I've come home now. I really hope I did well on it, because I completely stuffed up my first one

  7. Remember that those new bulbs you purchased are probably made for industrial use, and although they should grow plants alright, specially-made aquarium bulbs will provide a more aesthetically pleasing lighting option. A Plant Pro is definately a good idea

Also with a lot of aquarium bulbs, kelvin rating is just a marketing gimmick that you should ignore. I've found that bulb colours are generally very different to the specified kelvin rating. For example, when I had my tank running, I had a Hagen AquaGlo bulb rated at 18,000K. In reality this would be quite blue, but the bulb was actually a nice crisp white colour with a pink tint that made the colours of my plants and fishes look great.

  8. same!

i would have done geography but it didn't fit with my other subjects.

Hahaha I did it because some of my other subjects wouldn't fit with my timetable :P

mine was the cooks beach one

    Thanks :hail:

I have closed the survey and gotten the results. Later on I will post a list of names I don't know and you can tell me what town/city you are from. I need to know this for when I do the question about distance. I don't know why I didn't add a question on the survey asking where everyone was from  :slfg:
