  1. im pretty new to fighters, here is my 100L community tank. so far so good as my male is not very dominant, i have a funny feeling the longer finned cambo 'female' is actually a male. Male was sold as a red/platinum HM but he has a fair bit of fin damage as i have moved house a couple times recently, females are VTs i believe. Barebottoms

After getting sick of the colour of my water i made my oscar tank bare bottom, its awesome to keep clean. i have recently added a second filter and now there isnt even a single bit of crud on the bottom after 2 weeks running. tanks been bare bottom for like 6 months and if anything the fish are happier as the water quality is better. Even in my new community fighter/guppy tank im only running a very fine layer of gravel- maybe half the usual amount. lets just say im convinced.
  3. yeah my male is a small community with 6 guppies, 2 loaches and 2 whiptails. he is only young but still the boss at feeding time
  4. very keen on one of those awesome fish
  5. chilli bin my oscar smashed my 4foot with a rock a few months back- 10mins before i was leaving for work. what a mish. he was in time out in the chilli for a week with a 50w heater
  6. yeah im pretty keen to try it but want to wait till everyone else has sorted all the problems out for me
  7. old glass is brittle and will break easily, its also pretty hard to cut small strips off (ie 50mm or less). Put it on a table with a towel or somethin under it and score along a straight edge pushing until you can feel it scoring/grinding then hold the offcut piece over the edge of the table and give it a firm push. should just go "tink" and break off, if its not scored well it will break funny tho. IME the best cutters are the type with a tiny wheel on the end.
  8. nice ghost dont see big ones too often
  9. more severums/ other fish to spread the harrassment around?
  10. cant see it being a problem, loaches are pretty fast an prefer to feed at night anyway
  11. i spotted some pretty nice ones in rotorua too. at the shop on the way to paradise valley. im not sure of chassis numbers but they seemed well priced  . some of the ones with the tiny white/blueish spots and various yellow/green strains. nice shop and well worth a look.
