  2. Reading back on some of the comments before the show, some people were not keen to show their fish because they had either just started up with their fish hobby or they were not sure of their technical names. We spent hours going thru the nett and books looking for names etc, but we did find them all....how to work out the sizing on the angels etc we had no idea, and did it wrong, but who cares, they filled tanks, and let others see what different ones are out there....and then as a JOKE we put in a fish we call ATTITUDE...because that is what it has, real character and attitude 8) .When we got him back home and into his tanks, the first thing our 3 year old grandson did was go up to the tank and put his lips there and Attitude came and gave him his kiss We were not sure if we could be bothered with all the preperations..eg catching and bagging the fish...that go with the show,as this was also our first, but by the end of the weekend we had met many new people with the same interest (fish) and learnt a lot that we could never have picked up from books. We fell into bed at 11-30 last night, but kept talking about the fish and show for another hour before sleep finally overcame us (needless to say,mum had her "nananap" this afternoon to try to catch up before work) All in all we had a great weekend and would like to thank eveyone who came through the doors, for whatever reason, and we can't wait till next years.
  3. Here's a bit of info i have been given from a source, and ive followed by it myself and every time i get between a 85%-95% hatchrate. Ideal Cyst Hatching Conditions Water Salinity: 25ppt Water Temperature: 28 deg C Water pH: 8.2--8.6 Light Level: >2000 lux at surface, from either flourescent or incandescent lamp. Oxygen Level: air bubbled at 200ml to 600ml / minute / L hatching vessel water, may need to be adjusted depending on hatching vessel configuration. Hatching Vessel: Irmhoff cone or similar shaped vessel (inverted ice cream cone.) Cyst Density: <2g dry cysts / L of hatching vessel water. Cysts may need periodic washing back into hatching vessel water with a wash bottle depending on the volume of air bubbling and hatching vessel configuration. Independent hatching experiments performed provide the following results. Hatching efficiency ( number of nauplii per gram of cysts ) For standard cysts: >280,000 For 175 cysts: >340,000 Hatching % (% of nauplii that hatch from cysts) For standard cysts >85% For 175 cysts >93% Hatching synchrony (time between 10% and 90% hatching ) For standard cysts <8 hrs For 175 cysts <6hrs if anyone is interest in bryneshrimp egg's, email me and ill get back to you.
  4. i have a 5' planted discus tank with a layer of potting mix then two of gravel, and i have recently discovered a green slimy jelly looking fungii growing mainly on the gravel and on alot of the plants. i have tried removing it (infected gravel and leaves) but the problem still remains. two weeks ago i emptied out the tank completely and replaced it with just gravel, and the problem has started to come back. a friend of mine has told me it might be one of a few problems. e.g. - something in the potting mix (which is proved wrong, as there is none in there anymore) -lack of nutrience, or something along those lines. i have the lights on 10hrs per day if anyone can help me, it would be MUCH appretiated. any comments or guesses on what the problem is or how to fix it would also be great. thanks
