  1. Hi all, Does anyone know of somewhere in West Auckland to get Dalton's Propagating Sand and Aquatic Potting Mix? I have tried the Warehouse Westgate, Lincoln Road and Mitre 10. Thanks, Matt
  2. Got a second tank set up for the babies, but .......any tips on how to catch the females without pulling all the rocks out of the tank ? I tried for about 10 minutes with two nets but had no luck. They have been holding for two and a half weeks now, when will they spit on their own accord in the community tank? Cheers, Matt
  3. Thanks for your help everyone, I think I will set up another tank and strip the two females this weekend. My largest male is about 6cm and my smallest is about 4cm, I have had them for about 6 weeks and they were around 3cm when I got them. Cheers, Matt
  4. Hi all, I have 8 Demasoni in a 450 litre tank with two bristlenose and two of my females have been holding for two weeks today. I was planning on attempting to strip them and place the fry I manage to get in a breeding trap, inside the main tank until I get another tank set up in the weekend. I thought I better check here first before I do anything wrong. Any one got any suggestions or guidance? I saw from other posts that a couple of other members also have Demasoni fry. What did you guys do? Thanks for your help. Cheers, Matt

    Dive Aussie

I can confirm Hamilton Island is very expensive, went there for my honeymoon in April this year. The first night we went to dinner at the seafood restaurant on the island and all the mains were $45+ AUD, $37 for 2 Dozen Tooheys New from the wholesaler as well! Nice place apart from the fact that it is full of rich, snooty Aussies.
  6. Count me in too please Plantman. Cheers, Matt
  7. Hi VickiH, I recently had the same problem with my tank that had been running for about 4 years without any problems, I thought it was algae or bacterial related due to gving the tank a good clean and changing the bulbs. After 3 weeks of dosing with algaefix and doing many large water changes I traced the problem to the Ceramic Noodles that I had added to the filter at the same time as I cleaned the tank. They were a cheap brand, about $5 per blue coloured box and came in there own mesh bag, if you have added these to your filter recently they may be the problem. My water was so cloudy, due to the noodles breaking down, that I couldn't even see the back of the tank and since I have removed the noodles my water is crystal clear. I hope you resolve your problem soon. Cheers, Matt

    Who is nipping?

Hi Caper, My guess is the Red Eye Tetra, especially if you only have a small group of them, if the tail nipping has just started happening then I would look to any new fish that you have introduced recently as well. I would add Melafix anyway as it doesn't harm your plants or filter in anyway and will help their tails heals faster. As far as your Molly is concerned Pleco's are real good at eating dead fish, either your pleco ate him or he is on the floor somewhere . I hope this helps. Cheers, Matt
  9. Sorry don't know anything about Axolotols, it might pay to give your local vet or pet store a call if you haven't already tried that. Good luck, Matt
  10. Thanks BlueandKim, no I definitely don't have any cats .
  11. Hi Alan, Thanks for the advice, turns out that I broke my fitted lid a month or so ago and have been using a piece of glass that is too long, so it sits on top of my tank leaving room for the runner to poke through. Cheers, Matt
  12. Hi guys, Thanks for replying, after looking at the links I agree that it is E. Osiris. Cheers, Matt

  18. If the peat is old you may want to replace it as it wears out after about 6 weeks, it may also be that you need to add a bit more to what you have to get the ph down further. Bear in mind though if you have just added the peat in the last few days it may take a little while to work. The phosphate will be coming from the bloodworms, the only way to get rid of it is to feed less bloodworms and more flake/pellet food or do more water changes. It may pay to also test your tap water to see if there is any phosphate in it in case this is the cause. My bet is the bloodworms though, as I have just recently acquired Discus and have been feeding a lot of frozen food to get them eating, I started to see algae in my planted tank for the first time since being set up 5 months ago. I increased the water changes and reduced the frozen food now they are eating heartily, and it has disappeared again....luckily . I hope this helps. Cheers, Matt

    Algae Problem

Hi Susi, Are any of your flouro bulbs over 6 months old? If they are, that might be why your plant growth slowed and algae started taking over. Cheers, Matt
