  1. If she's on her own in tank don't strip her. Good to see her releasing them and any sign of danger they go to safety of females mouth.
  2. Good picture, how is the Comps going?
  3. I've got the distribution rights for NZ and it will be available early next year. I'll be looking for retailers as soon as everything is tied up. It is the best food you can get and you will be able to notice a difference in colour after feeding it to your fish for a couple of weeks. You don't have to feed them any other dry food. I still feed mine frozen food as a treat.
  4. Have been feeding my fry BBS and now because of time constraints feed the decapsulated eggs instead. Microworm is also on the menu, but before that I only used BBS and had no problems. That's my experience and you should be sweet.

My large kenyi female has no barring unless they spawning. I see what you mean though. If you look at the spot on the gill plate, it is darker on the kenyi and blue on the cobalts. I'm not saying your wrong or I'm right, it is hard to judge from the pic.

Then again, hard to tell, second last picture looks more like it than no 3. Flash in no 3 bright and looks more like blue zebra. Look at whose hanging out with whom and you should work it out.

No. 3 looks like a kenyi female , same shape as the male. I'm 99% sure it's a female.
  8. You have some pics? Keep us posted and good luck with the new fish.
  9. Good, will get some from you when they ready to go. Setting up my tanks in Te Awamutu this week and moving fish. Have 5 foot and 2 4 foots running and ready to hold fish while setting up rest of tanks.
  10. Sweet, they are beautiful fish. Have you had any previous spawns?
  11. Thanks, I got some at the local glass people, but will get strapping aswell. Might make it easier combining and using both.
  12. Thanks Alan. Tried hire centre, no luck. It's a 8 foot tank. Will try the glass shop. Have to move all my tanks and fish. Got some set up at my new house, now the fun part of moving the rest. Only 10 more to do. Cheers
  13. Hey I need to move larrge tank and want to know if anyone know where I can hire glass suction cups to move tank? Thanks
  14. The males normally have elongated dorsal fins and females bellies go pink when they ready to spawn. Depending on age they can be sexed, young ones look alike. Have look at this link imgurl=http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/img/Mikrogeophagus_ramirezi_8.jpg
  15. Hi everyone Africans: Dolphins, electric yellows, red top zebras, daffodils, lemons, johanni, rainbows, kenyi, aurora bumble bees and blue zebras. Apistos: Viejita, Cockatoos, Eunotus and Panduro. Eunotus have not bred yet, bought 10 and all turned out to be male, got a couple of females last week and they are flirting with the boys. Cheers
  16. Thanks for the info, will give it a go. I have 10 eunotus, which I bought as little wee ones. They all grown, 10 males. If you have spare females down the line please keep me in mind. Good luck with the other ones, hope they spawn and raise the fry for you.
  17. Hi Alan I also have panduro and am having the same trouble. Even bought more females, have 3, but they all do the same. One had fry at free swimming stage and then ate them. How do you hatch the eggs, any special tricks? Will have to try do it your way, might have more success. Thought they would stop doing it after a few goes, but no way. Will have to play mum and dad myself.
  18. I have some Cockatoos which i bought last year, but they are really growing slow and might have been stunted in growth. If anyone know where i can find good quality stock, please let me know. I'm also after some Agassizii. Thanks
  19. I bought a pair early in the year and had them a couple of weeks and they spawned. Each time they got to wrigglers and got eaten. I now have about 12 fry that's a month old and about 20 free swimming fry of a week. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: The female turned out to be a real good mum, with a bit of practice, and she's tending to the new fry like a pro. Anyone else had success with their Viejitas?
  20. Good to get in early, might be a long wait, but worth it. They normally take a couple of years or more before they breed. Gives me enough time to get the 8 footer sorted. :bounce:
  21. Well done Paul, now can you let us in on your secret? What do you put in the water?  :bounce: :bounce:
  22. Hope you don't mind us hijacking your link Kribcrazy? All in good spirit. I agree with you on that herefishiefishie. There is risk when using and feeding bloodworm, but if used with care and moderation it is still good. I've been feeding it to various fish for years and never lost a fish because of that. When Dolphins are fully grown they are pretty big, so will they still feed on micro organisms? We can debate this forever. I'll leave it at that.
  23. If you do your research you will find that they feed on worms and other aquatic life in the wild, they don't feed on algae, that's dolphins. I feed my Africans according to what they eat in the wild and have been for more than 15 years without problems. It's all personal preference, stick to what you believe in. Most Africans that feed on algae can't resist small fry, have a look when a female spits in a community tank. Nothing is black and white in fishkeeping, I've been around a while and you pick up bits of info and try new things and if it works for you, good. They will spawn for you if they are conditioned , whichever way you prefer to do it.
  24. Feed them bloomworm and give them time, they will spawn for you. How big are they? Once they start breeding you will have a new batch every 6 weeks. Good luck and keep us posted.
  25. Nice looking fish you have there, if you breed them I'll have first option on some. :bounce:
