    Blind Platy

Our 2yo Platy is blind! He has some very slight clouding over his eyes - but one of my younger platys has worse clouding, but no probs with her vision. His poo is pale and stringy... but maybe that is a result of his diet of algae tabs? (it's the only food that stays still long enough for him to find and eat it). He survived an unknown illness a month ago where his spine got bent, had a paralysed tail, swam about like a drunkard, and sank like a stone whenever he wasn't swimming. Is there anything we can do to bring his sight back? Any ideas what is causing the clouding of all their eyes? -Thanks heaps!
  2. Looks like I'll be finishing work early tomorrow for a stroll to my lfs! Thanks heaps for your help!
  3. How do we go about treating internal parasites??
  4. Hey, just to be contrary... we have two very large male angels who do this twitching thing at each other just about 24/7. They've done it ever since they were about 10cmin length and we always figured it was a territorial thing. (But looking at prev replies, maybe they're gay?... Can you get gay fish??) It can get kinda scary when they start biting at each others lips and splashing water everywhere. Hence, we are planning on getting rid of one of ours. *sniff sniff*
  5. 6 weeks ago we moved our 2yo platy from our large tank (where he was being picked on by our monstrous angels) to a smaller tank with a couple of female platys. Initially, he enjoyed his new home and the female company very much. But for the past couple of weeks he has stopped eating and has been scratching himself on the log, substrate and plants. Although we can't see any external signs of parasites etc. we added some melafix and tonic salt to be on the safe side. Two days ago he started sulking in the bottom corners of the tank. His body has a slight kink in it and he is rolling over on to his left side a little. Whenever he tries to swim anywhere (which isn't often) he swims for a bit, and then crash lands onto the substrate, or gets caught in a plant. From what I've read in previous posts, a swim bladder problem seems to be the likely candidate. Thisavo we managed to feed him some small pieces of pea in the hopes that this would help. Is there anything else we could/should do? Is it worth dosing the tank with Furan-2? Should a 2 year old platy be fit and healthy, or is he reaching retirement age??
  6. Hi guys, I have had three female platties in my 40L tank for the past three months. Water conditions are fine (pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia etc), and yet one of the girls has a case of (what I assume is) fin rot that she just can't shake. It started off with white cloudy patches at the edges of her tail almost as soon as she was transferred to the new tank. Soon after, the tail turned ragged and she got cloudy eyes. She also grew a fairly large lump just behind the fleshy part of her tail. I added about 20g of tonic salt to the tank, and dosed it with 'Wunder Tonic' for a few days until her tail had grown back. (Wunder tonic = meth blue, mal green, acriflavine, & quinine) This sequence has now replayed multiple times, and I just can't seem to win. I've given up dosing the whole tank (in the vain hope that the silicone will shed its pretty blue colour) and now give her daily salt baths. This seems to keep her alive, but little else. She is much smaller than her sibs, has ragged fins and tail, and cataracts. But she feeds and behaves fairly normally, with just the occasional scratch against the log. I am a novice, and can't help but feel that I'm doing something horribly wrong. Any advice would be very gratefully received!!
