  1. yes otherwise there will be no bubbles etc for the skimming to take affect.
  2. I dont think the average tank would support bringing up live clown fish. They need "special" attention in the way of micro foods. Most clown lay eggs, but no one ever manages to raise the young. Specialist sort of hobbie raising the young. 8)
  3. I was thinking about a copper band, and still are. so I put some time into keeping them, I only say this because this is what I have been told... Because they are slow feeders , they can miss out on food etc and a good way is to squash mysis shrimp into some rock/coral and this will allow them to pick it out. They are also fussy eaters, so what food was the shop feeding them? maybe try some kind of transition to an alternative food source. Good news on the anemoes though. Is it looking healthy? moving around etc, or is it sulking.
  4. thats no good, If they appear to not know what they are doing, why do they try to carry stock? they must loose a lot. Sometimes you can catch a store on a bad day and get some "very helpful" help from someone who doesnt know what they are doing. I must admit, it was only by way of bad advice from a LFS that go me into this hobbie, and I am actually happy they put me wrong..... now that I have fixed it all up, the is a satisfaction that I actually am starting to know a little bit, and adding all the time, mainly with trial and error to the art of marine reef keeping. mj 8)
  5. not sure if you posted your photos properly, try again..
  6. ..............................
  7. thats what I am thinking.... the rock pools get fairly warm, especially when low tide is in the middle to late afternoon.
  8. do you have the test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates??
  9. thanks for this, with the skimmer, I feel comfortable with the oxygen levels, plus 2 powerheads will help with movement. Will try to keep up water changes, basically easy to do, but the limiting factor is tides and wind direction, which cause cloudy waters.

i still think it is just moving around sounds like what mine did, sort of inflates to the max to make the most of the currents etc, rotating and turning etc.... i would just enjoy it, not much else you can really do anyway if there is a problem. Mine also would settle during the day and then take up its wandering in the low light and lights out. Probably feels less threatened when the lights are out, then I spose well all do.....
  11. hes allsorts of colours, sometimes quiet orange/brown. The rocks are white coral so he is sometimes trying to look like them... moves around quiet happily in the tank, man, they are a very interesting to look at, most interesting. Very hard to understand in a still photo the way they move. Look forward to being able to provide for him. thanks about the mussels, I had been thinking about them as a source of food, currently the kids have collectd crabs and rock cod.
  12. some photos she spent all day out, according to my kids, but now is relaxing out of site, so here are some photos from last night....
  13. and if the glass breaks...... I will be able to get the new carpet for the lounge..... 8) Glass not that thick, but then the rocks are middle size bits of coral. I am thinks of making a new lid. Just hope it is worth it, they tell me they only live a couple of years at best, and I am not sure of the age. The biggest one I have seen in wild was on a dive off the coast here, it was sort of purple and sitting just ahead of us at about 3 meters. I turned back to point it out to my wife who was behind me, when I looked forward again it had gone... then the lights went out.... my wife saw it all, it has shot up, opened up like a parachute and settled down on my head with its tenticles over my face, mask and back of my head. I calmly went into a panic and started pulling at it... it decided the better of its ways and shot off.... wife couldnt stop laughing for ages.............
  14. lets hope hes not going to be that big, if he/she does get out of hand, I can always pop it back in the ocean, its just over the road..
