I was thinking about the net because I was worried about temp and water circulation. What hatching conditions do these guys need? :-? Would I be better to scrape them off into a guppy breeding trap?

I had one years ago. They prefer cold water. Take my advice and get a very tight fitting lid as I found "Slimy" on the floor a few times, they are quite intelligent and can quickly become friendly and eat out of your hands. I used to fed mine strips of beef and mutton. I don't recommend any tanks mates either but a few feeder fish will keep him enviromentally entertained! :lol:

I have just had the EXACT problem in my Aqua one 850. I solved the problem by placing a large bio ball over the opening in the last chamber. (over the hole that leads to the outlet) Because of the bio ball structure the water passes by fine and there is know more gurgling :bounce:

The other day I found somes rather large-ish eggs on the front of my tank just below the water line. After reading on here I have assertained that that must have been cory eggs as my angels are too young and the eggs were too big for dwarf cichilds. My question is removing the eggs so they can hatch safetly. I have read that you can scrape them off with a razor blade. After I have done this can I put them in a breeding net suspended in the main tank. Are they alright on the bottom of the net, as once you scrape them off the glass that the only place for them. How long before she lays again as the first lot were unfortunately fishfood! Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have never bred cats before and have NO idea what to do. :roll:

This is what I have ended up using. A power head with an old canister out of and old internal fluval. I am seeing very small bubbles at the far end of the tank so am assuming that I have enough circulation to carry the co2 around the tank. Unfortunately because I have an aqua one everything has to go on one corner of the tank hence the heater and filter inlet tube next to my diy masterpiece!

Sorry about that confusion! :oops: My brother inlaw is is a self professed fish expert (NOT!!) says he has this stuff that is liquid co2 and is called flourish or something similar. Is he correct or does he just think he knows what he is talking about? :-?

Thats what I was worried about to, especially having angles ( one of which has gone awol tonight,( must have the Burmuda Triangle in my tank!!) What I have done is faced the outlet directly into a resin log so there is minimal "disturbance in the force Luke. lol :lol: I am hoping this works sometimes I think it would have been easier to just go and buya bottle of flourish but I enjoy making things myself. Wish me luck!!

Thanks for all your help guys. I think I will go out and buy a cheap filter just in case. I there any risk of over filtering with two filters running. My aqua one filter that came with the tank does around 1000ph and the new one will do 400lph. My tank is only 165 litres. :roll:

,thanks for your reply Sharn. I'm just trying a new method. I have an old Fluval which I have taken the filter chamber off. Replaced it with a large piece of rubber hose which has a protective gauze attached to the end(so fish don't get sucked up), then I have fed the co2 tube into the rubber hose, that way the bubble gets sucked into the rubber hose, then the filter head, goes through the impeller, chomp chomp and is spat out the oulet in its new thousand bubble shape. Do you think this would be ok? :roll:

Hi , I have just rigged up a diy co2 system. I have read on some sites that you should not run the bubble through your filter uplift tube as this can damage your impeller etc. Is this true or not as running the bubble in my filter uptake is by far the easiest solution for a diffuser? I have an aqua one 850 with the filter running along the top of the tank Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had them years ago and the best bit of advice I can give is make sure you have a good filter!!! Turtles can make a big mess!!

You could try coating them in a good coat of epoxy resin. I have just done a tank background with resin and it is supposed to be inert when cured properly. Make sure you get an epoxy resin though, this comes in 2 parts but unfortunately does not come cheap. Hammer Hardware and the likes stock it Maybe a solution if you really want these carvings in your tank Lee :bounce:

HI all, My background is not completely resin more a combination of polysteryne , acrylic paint, sand and resin. First of all you measure up your poly to find the inside measurements of the back of your tank. Then I cut out small rock shaped pieces of poly and siliconed them into place taking into account filter tubes etc. ( it is a good idea to dry fit with pins holding your rocks on first). When I was happy with the layout I painted the whole thing in a coat of dark green acrylic paint. When this had completey dried I painted over a generous amount of Epliglass marine 2 pot resin. Let this dry and re-apply your resin and while it is still wet sprinkle over a good layer of sand. (I used sandblasting sand that I bought from a gravel depot which I washed well and dried) Repeat this step once more to ensure a good coverage ( the green paint will disguse any missed spots) This is as far as I have got so am now at the stage of letting it cure properly then I will soak it for a few days and try a cheap fish with it just to make sure. I have also made a smaller one for a 10-15 litre that i have which I am going to house a betta in. Will try to post pics once that one is installed. We are moving in a few months so I will wait until then to install the big one. By the way you silicone the final product to the back of your tank.. PHEW....... Havn't taken step by step photos Caryl . Maybe someone out there would like to repeat this process and would be better prepared? Leonie :

Hi Duncan, Have you checked the impeller in the power head, sometimes they just need to be taken out and put back in to quieten them down. I too have a Aqua One but 850 with the wet dry filter and mine has just got a hum. If taking out and replacing the impeller dosn't work i recommend contacting you lfs and seeking a replacement afterall tanks are supposed to be relaxing!! Good luck Cheer Lee

Hi all, I cannot express how nice it is to have someone to talk to who is really interested in fish keeping instead of a loving husband who just humors and supports me in my obssesion! I am just returning into the hobby again after a brief break and am currently building a polystyrene background which I am coating in resin. Could someone PLEASE tell me if epiglass marine resin is safe? I will be letting it cure properly and soaking before exposing to a very brave sacrifice! All replies most welcome. :bounce:
