  1. Hi, I am adding an interface to control X-10 devices (lights, heating, sump, CO2, etc) so if you are interested in automated aquarium I could pass on the code at no charge? Stephanie
  2. Hi, I wrote my own. However a couple of good ones (my opinion) are: ReefCon Pro http://www.infinitysoft.net/ReefCon/Pro/ Aquarix http://www.aquarix.de/en/ Stephanie
  3. Hi John, Having already spent a fair amount of time on this idea, I believe I have a working solution - especially after todays research. Thanks for the offer of assistance. However I feel that I am in a better position to develop my own solution for my own requirements. All the best on your own research and development. Stephanie
  4. Hi, It was with my original post. Here it is again. http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/hurley-co2.html Stephanie
  5. Hi John, Sorry for the misunderstanding. "The Krib" article provides enough schematics (sort of, with a few modifications) to actually build a controller that takes input from a probe and then controls a solenoid to release CO2. This is what interested me about the article - building something that most people think is too hard. So depending on the availability and price of parts I think I will give it a go. It maybe that I am unable to get the accuracy of reading required (if at all) - if it works great I have done something that not many people seem to try, if not at least I tried. Thanks for all your help and advise. Stephanie
  6. Hi John, Hey sounds great. Have you actually built one of these controllers? I am not interested in building a pH probe (always thought that I would buy that part - as you say to hard) just the electronic controller. Stephanie
  7. Hi, I am not talking about building a CO2 injection system (of which there are many posts) rather I am talking about building an electronic controller that will measure the pH and adjust CO2 injection to either raise or lower pH thereby controlling pH at a set value. Stephanie
  8. Hi, Interested to know if anyone has built their own CO2 Controller or would be interested in contributing knowledge and experience. I am considering this 'little' project once I have my tank up and running. I am considering the Jim Hurley option on The Krib (with a few modifications) http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/hurley-co2.html Stephanie
  9. Hi, Well since everyone was so kind to reply to my post I thought that I better fill out the Welcome Mat. I kept goldfish as a child and recently decided to renew my interest in fish keeping and put together a tropical tank. Spending lots of time on the 'Net reading everything I can - lots of differing opinions out there - but all interesting. My plan is try South American fishes (tetras, rams, and some groovy catfish) - hope my Burmese cats don't get too upset. Long term I am interested in CO2 systems and quite possibly automated systems. I am a systems engineer by trade so I was getting back in to fish keeping to get away from computer systems - but building my own automated aquarium system could be away to combine both interests. Well that's enough ramble from me, Stephanie
  10. Thanks. My plan is to go back to the pet store and interrogate them about their gravel a bit more. I am assuming that 25Kg of gravel will cover a tank bottom (90x45) with 1 inch of gravel - am I correct. Stephanie
  11. Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll let you know how I get on. Stephanie
  12. Hi, As a newbie to fish keeping I am having some difficulty locating the kind of gravel that I want. I need "hardness free" gravel - something that does not have shell, etc in it. I live in Wellington and my local stores only seem to sell gravel with shell in it. Anyone got any ideas of where I could source the kind of gravel that I need from. The idea from the store was to go through the gravel (about 50 Kg worth) picking out the gravel by hand - Stephanie
