  1. Thanks Warren for posting this and being a support.

Bryan was a very close friend to both Daffydd and I, for at least 4 years. There was never a day that went past that we weren't chatting on the phone, we would at times be on the phone 3 times a day.. I would hear the phone ring and think gee that must be Bry  Since Bry being back in Napier we tried to support Bry as much as we could, I can truely treasure the fact that he was a part of our life, even through his good times and bad times... and mine for that matter :D My son adored him, and recently he caught a heap of mysis shrimp and taught Rory how to feed them out to fish. Thanks Bry, you have created a monster, now my nets go missing more often than not

I will miss the old Bryan like crazy and I am still in major shock over his passing.

RIP sweetheart.. Shine on you crazy diamond

    :cry::cry::cry:

  2. I think it depends on each individual pair, some species are known to be great parents, however, there is always exception to the rule. Our pair were excellent parents, and they are a cichlid that is known to be good parents and look after their fry well, but you could have one out of your pair that doesn't mind snacking down on it's brood by the sounds, or could well be both.

  3. Personally I don't think your tank dimensions are big enough to house anything more, may pay to upgrade size of tank if you are wanting to get more fish. Do you mean a pair of JD as in male/female? All hell could break loose if they eventually pair up.

  4. There could well be issues, and when Oscars fight they mean business, and they are in my opinion like dogs with a bone when it comes to having a snitch

You will need to upgrade the size of your tank eventually also.

  5. I have heard of the odd person keeping convicts and africans in the same tank, not something I would encourage.

is it ok to put a single convict into an african tank. It's about a year old and is living in a semi aggressive community tank, so it's a peaceful fish

Bear in mind that some fish may be peaceful in one tank however can adopt a different attitude in a different environment. It could swing either way, become aggressive or could end up getting dealt to itself. What sort of Africans are you keeping in the tank?

  6. Kelly was extremely old when she passed on, I belonged to the Marineland Club when I was very young, under 10.. it was fantastic to belong to and as children we learnt so much about the marine life and got to swim with the Dolphins etc..

Kelly exceeded well past her lifespan for a dolphin and she was always close by when her trainers and the workers were there... often throwing in extra little stunts and tricks because she enjoyed herself so much. Surely if she was that depressed she wouldn't have kept such excellent health over the years and exceeded well the past the life expectancy?

Marineland has done some fantastic work with animals that have come in injured or animals that could not manage to survive out in their natural habitat.. I think some people are mistaken and compare Marineland to these places overseas that keep these overly large Orca in these tiny little pool tanks... Now that to me is over the top...

Dolphins thrive and love human interaction... and even tho I am not a fan of keeping mammals of any sort in such a confined area, I can honestly say, being from Napier and seeing over the years... those Dolphins certainly were well cared for and thrived on entertaining and their care.

  7. Heya

    Congrats on the spawning :D

Our pair just bred recently and we took the eggs and raised them ourselves.

Viable Oscar eggs are normally more so a white creamy colour, almost a light tan, nowhere near as coloured as other species eggs. You will definately know whether or not they are fertile after a few hours of them being laid... the non fertile eggs pretty much fungus within a short space of time. It possibly would be a good idea next time to take the eggs as soon as you can :D Oscars alot of the time are not overly good parents, they can lose interest pretty quick or get carried away with the cleaning of the slate. If your eggs next time are viable and you see the odd area develop fungus, just scrape or lift the non viable area away carefully with a pair of tweezers :)

    Keep us posted :D

  8. I am looking at becoming a donor now that I don't have any meds in my system...

I am O negative and they are often screaming out for O neg blood.

I had a huge blood transfusion when I had my accident back in 1992, so only feel that I should give back as in appreciation for what others provided for me :) I am very thankful, if it weren't for donors then I sure as hell wouldn't be here :hail:

  9. The Leopoldi of mine had beautiful emerald green colouration behind the eye.. that is a key to those also as far as alot of literature and pictures on the internet...

Here is a good link to a good pic of leopoldi... mine mirror image:

    http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=196

These when they came in were retailing at around $150 each odd... very nice angel with extraordinary behaviour.... and nowhere near as aggressive I found as Scalare.

  10. I was almost asleep when it hit, in that between dozing off and sleep phase then wham!

8ft tank fine and dandy, a bit of slop down the front... thank god for that!!!!!! I was as stiff as a bored just waiting to see where things were going

Fish shed fine and dandy, all tanks in one piece, just a bit of water slop.. sweeeeeeet 8)

  11. Heya

There could definately be a culprit or culprits amongst your lot that will do damage if they feel the need, there normally is still a weakest link even when it is a male only setup, so possibly, yes they could well be picking on him, even male only tanks with no females present can still have major dominance issues at times.
