  1. Tank change for Murtle today....all stones will be taken out. Thanks for your help.
  2. I was wondering if she might have swallowed one. I just set the tank up the same way as the guy I got her from did....well sort of...she is now in a tank about 4 times bigger. I'll try some peas.
  3. Murtle is 18months old............I have only had her for a month. She was only eating frozen food when I got her, she is now having frozen food one night and pellets the next and some lettuce. How can I help her???????? It is right there ready to come out and she is trying but its just not happening.
  4. I got my 3 catfish a couple of weeks ago....1 x albino cory, 1 x bristlenose and 1 x hoplo. I got some shrimp pellet formula for them, but my silver dollars keep stealing them..(quite funny to watch, grab and swim away fast, then just hold onto them and suck them) I'm a lil worried my catfish ain't getting the proper diet now.
  5. Just tried taking pics.......can't get any good ones at all...stuff isn't showing up. It's soft slimey black stuff....grows really fast. Doesn't seem to worry my horses but looks damn awful. It grows quite long.....say 3 to 4 inchs.....on the plants (they aren't real) and on the bottom of the tank.
  6. I have black furry growth in my seahorse tank. What causes it and how do I get rid of it????????????
  7. I don't know much about tropical fish, but have a marine tank with seahorses, a big tank with goldfish and another big tank with axolots. I have a lil 30lt tank ( I'm running out of room in my lil house) I would like to try some tropicals. I'd luv angel, what fish could I put with 1 or 2 angels and how many fish altogether (not many I know, being a lil tank)
  8. Its now a couple of weeks later.........I had enought of not being able to see my fishys. Last Fri I tranfered by big goldfish to other tanks and emptyed my tank..all but a lil bit of water in the bottom..the gravel had a big clean with my gravel cleaner thingy...plastic plants got sterilised in boiling water.......fluval 3 got cleaned. Was crystal clear for a couple of days....now is slowly started to cloud again. What hell am I doing wrong. It had been getting maybe a lil to much morning sun, which may have caused the prob in the first place...but I'm making sure it doesn't now. What Next???????
  9. OMG I am so stupid.........I put it together wrong and was blocking the water coming thru.....lol...all fixed now.
  10. Just been cleaning my seahorse tank..........now..the filter has stopped flowing..the motor is going and the impella is turning but it is not cycling the water..I'm very confused.
  11. My 80 lt hexongonal tank which is normally crystal clear has been rather cloudy for the last few days. I have done water changes, cleaned the filter etc but it's still cloudy. Any ideas would be great.....
  12. I posted a week or 2 ago bout my 2 seahorses and their tank not being very happy, due to advise from the shop I got them from. The tank hadn't cycled before adding the seahorses. Anyway long story short.....my wee dudes seem very happy now, frolicking around and the tank is much better too. I thought I was gonna loose them but all is well so far.
  13. My seahorses seems a little happier....have got the temp down as it was sitting at about 23....now at 19 and they are more active. I rang the shop yesterday and they stand by what they told me They said they have doing this way for years (as in adding Seahorses after a few days) They are getting 200 horses from the seahorse farm that is closing in the next few days, so at a guess I'd say they are going to start breeding. They have also said they will replace my dudes if they died in the next couple of weeks. The ammonia levels have dropped a little, soooo I still hoping things will be OK. Thanks everyone for all your help.
  14. 3 axolots.....typo before...opps
  15. Try this .. http://www.theseahorsefarm.co.nz/pet_supplies.php The horses aren't eating today...I'm getting rather upset about the whole thing..the wee guys aren't very happy. I did everything I was told to do from the beginning now its all turning to S**t. I hate seeing animals unhappy. The only thing I can do now is frequent water changes and hope for the best. and RING THE SHOP AND GIVE THEM AN EAR FULL.
  16. aletrnates days of brine shrimp and mysis shrimp (frozen)....I have got brine shrimp eggs ready to start hatching my own. I live right in the middle of the country, so no hope of getting natural sea water to put them while tank is cycling.
  17. seahorse farm said I needed http://www.theseahorsefarm.co.nz/pet_supplies.phped....
  18. The exact same tank for 2 sea horses. I checked there site and rang also the other day and they are closing the place, they were just there cleaning up. I got good book from the shop via the seahorse farm that has been veru usefull. And to sound completely usless.....how does a skimmer work?
  19. Only joined tonite and already I have had lots of good info from people re my seahorses.(hopefully I will get all sorted) I also have a 100lt hexangonal tank with 7 large goldfish.....fantails, comets and calicos. A big tank with 3 axolots 9 (growing very fast) and a tadpole/frog tank.I'm a real animal person.we have a mini zoo...so much so that the local kindy are coming to visit them all...lol
  20. 4 days later.thats all they said it needed.
  21. has a built in filter system. Yes I have the white gravely sand (well it brownish at the mo) I'm getting rather worried for the wee dudes. The boy also arrived full of eggs, that I didn't know about until he missed carried them and the girl lost eggs too. I'm rather pissed off about it all. Especially when I thought I did all my homework first.
  22. I'm from Central Otago. Got the tank and horses from Invercargill.3 hrs drive. Was told the tank was fine for 2 potbellies.
  23. only 34L for 2 seahorses...vodka.......can I just add that to the tank..it has 2 seahorses in it...don't want them drunk..lol. I'm very new to marine stuff and thought I had asked ALL the questions before setting up, but now am starting to wonder how much the people knew themselves.
  24. Ok......I have had my tank for 3 weeks....am very disapointed in the shop I got my seahores from..they didn't tell me to cycle the tank for several weeks before adding the seahorses. Now I have very high ammonia levels and heaps of brownish algae. Have now learnt lots via reading forums etc. As quick as I clean the tank the algae is there again before my eyes. I have turned the lights off...done a partial water change. Not sure what to do next.
