  1. hey guys.thanks for your great advice.did a water change today(about 25-30%) and took the carbon out and added a dose of meds again. Its been like 4-5hrs and theres a considerable lesser amount of white spots on my clown loaches :bounce: I think the whitespot cure might actually be working Im in happier mood now about the whole situation.thanks again guys.Especially alan
  2. how long does it take to get rid of whitespot with methylene blue?
  3. yeah guys im having alotta trouble getting rid of my whitespot problem.starting to think why i ever gotfish in the first place.is there any real easy way to get rid of this problem?
  4. I rang up Levin petworld today and they said that clown loaches get it when put from chilly water into warm water.he advised me to put the temp up to 28 degrees celcius and use that methyl(not sure :-? )blue but i told him i'd used whitespot cure and he said just wait a day or two and the cysts will fall off and then you do a water change to get the cysts off the bottom.Does that sound about right to you guys?
  5. yeah i suppose your right alan.about the it would be worthwhile part.dad got the wunder whitespot cure and it has that malachite green in it.put half dosage in and keeping a good eye on fish.says 1mL per 20L i think and to dose again in the next 3days and if fish look discomforted than do a 50% water change.has anyone had to do water changes and is it compulsory?
  6. Im from Linton,Palmerston North.I cant go to levin til the weekend.dads going to get some whitespot cure today.so when he comes back from work than i'll do a 1/2 dosage as mentioned above.and to alan well if i had the money to buy a new heater and air pump than i would setup a quarantine tank but i dont so i unfortunately have to take these kinda risks.
  7. Thanks Lynda. I got them from Levin Petworld today and they looked fine when i bought them.I will make sure though in future to check real carefully though. Thanks for the recommendation of whitespot cure.Does it work well and efficiently?
  8. i have another tank to use as one but i dont have a heater for it.so no.so i put the temp up to 28-29 and i'll go to the LFS(animates or wetpets) and see what they have.do you have any recommendations?
  9. Just bought two clown loaches today and well they have lots a little white spots on em and i think its white spot. Can anyone help with perhaps any info as to how to really identify it and if theres any possible cures and if its deadly? Please help as i have over $300 worth of fish and i want to help em if possible
  10. hey rory.ive got a 2ft tank and have glowlights, neons, black neons, black widow tetras, zebra danios, serpaes, diamond tetras and kuhli loaches.i definately recommend kuhli loaches as they are really cool and do a good job at cleaning the bottom of my tank ie. leftover fish food and they dont grow that big and get on fine with my pleco.glowlights, neons and black neons are cheap and cool andwould go well with your black gravel.im not sure about fighters tho.good luck with the fish selections.
  11. Thanks Kim&Dan Yeah i hope everything goes well now too! All fish looking well so im hoping that i'll have no further casualties in the new year.
  12. oh...........................................i didnt know about the fish down the toilet problem  i was always told to just flush it.I cant bring myself to throwing it on the ground and adding it to the gardens.my mate did that and her cat fished it out and left half of it on her bed.talking about coming back to haunt yah what if i in future just stick it in a bag and then chuck it in the bin?i dont have the guts to "smash" it on the ground that just sounds muderous to the first degree  any other nicer ways would be kindly accepted however
  13. Thanks lynda, yeah it had been weak and sick like for a while and was on its side at the top but still breathing but suffering so i flushed it down the loo to put it out of its misery.i had a feeling that fish would take out the sick i suppose its their way of putting them out of their misery.I found grant at petworld to be great and he did me a great deal on my tank from 500 down to 450 and the powerfilter and bubblewall for 50 so yeah he's really great.i like animates in palmy also as they have a great range of community fish and yo can sometimes get 10% off stuff.they tend to have a better range of fish stuff than wetpets.i had bought 5 diamond tetras,5 black widow tetras,5 serpae tetras,3 glowlights,2 black neons,5 khuli loaches and well ive had them for a 2-3 weeks now and none look sick or have died except for the danio yesterday but yeah.my pH had climbed to 7.8 so i went to animates and got pH 7.0 and now my tanks at 7.0 so thats good.i just did a water change after reading your message and will do another tomorrow and do another test but i tested it a few days ago and the nitrite was pretty much at zero but i'll aim to have it "at" zero.do you know of any good top swimming fish you know with the whole layers thing how theres the top ones middle ones etc?i need a few more top ones.oh and yeah i did find a home for those fish.mums friend wanted them and so we went to her place and she put them in the tank with the other to rasboras she had and they were swimming with them quite happily so i knew they were in a good home.
  14. i had an unfortunate death of my female zebra danio today.it was the one without the tail and well i found it today on its side with its fins torn i have a male and another female and i was wondering if fish tend to take out the weak ones or something cos all my other fishes are fine except the tailess one can anyone help with any info or something?
  15. Congrats apisto :bounce: Well done you did really well and im not suprised that you did really well
