  1. Thanx Alastair. Where ya been? Banned from the computer for Xmas? :-? Don't say ya bin too busy opening all ya presents!
  2. I got me a 6 line wrasse a few days ago. Our powder blue tang that gets a spot of whitespot once in a while 'presents' itself side on to the wrasse as though it expects to get a clean from it. (no, its not a territorial 'flashing' as its fins aren't raised and it parks itself passively in front of it!). Has anybody else encountered this or know if 6 lines are known to clean other fish? Our PBT thinks so!
  3. Obviously its a cyber relationship and he has never met you!
  4. How goes the Rose at work??
  5. Here's a link to a few articles: http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/general-reef-aquarium-discussion/14478-ich-treatments.html
  6. Phew! - thanks Fay. Thats why "you are the man".
  7. I agree with cookie - whitespot would NOT have been 'caused' by lemonade going into tank. Water parameters still okay? Addition of a high amount of carbonated water??? via lemonade? Unusual for ALL fish to come down suddenly with whitespot as different species have differing rates of vulnerability. For me - no such thing as proven (effective) reef safe cure to be used in reef tank.
  8. How long has the tank you are intending to put the anemone in been established? They need stable, high quality water to do well. Ideally with good flow (turbulent) and lighting. Even in tanks with apparently good water quality anemones put their toes up or into something mechanical. Don't worry about anemones finding there spot - they will keep on shifting, floating, walking over corals, until they find a good spot for themselves. Usually this is the furthermost spot from where we picked.
  9. Oh c'mon - they hardly blinked at each other when I put them in. Me guesses the real test will be when the the bangais get bigger - hope they don't start yelling 'banzai'!
  10. QUICK!!!! send us all pieces! Ya never know - tis the season of miracles ain't it??!!?
  11. No, didn't raise them myself but I suspect someone else in NZ did! Apparently the male carries the fry in his mouth for quite a while so makes it a bit easier. Would probably need to put them in a separate tank though cause it would only be a matter of time before they became chop suey in a communal reef tank...
  12. Me pyjamas have little friends to talk to....
  13. Can't tell - there's some dickhead on a sleigh being towed by reindeer in front of it!
  14. Nah, just enjoyed more room  Was probably a 'good' stress situation though. To make it easier shifting everything into the new tank I did water changes leading up to the shift so the water in old and new tank was basically the same. Just the old feed it and big water change scenario.
  15. Its a reddy maroon - see his mate down the bottom right - she's a deep maroon.
  16. It must be the season for anemones to split! First Ru's then ours. The top one was the 'original' one. The bottom one has yet to develop a mouth properly in its centre (its to the side) but it still managed to eat a whitebait. The clowns are happy - they have one each now!
  17. I am sure you would be most welcome Alastair - especially with all the frags you have 'exported' to the Waikato!
  18. 2 out of the 3 (on left). Still a bit of a pile of rocks but there are 'holes' through the rockwork which are the black bits. Wanted to have plenty of rockwork to put my acros on. As well as that my maroon tries to keep the area around its anemone clear of unecessary obstructions like acros  so its taken centre stage a bit.
  19. They are actually the new ones! Shows how much the camera doesn't do the brightness/colour justice. Huge difference. Really like the 20k MH - brings out the greens and blues a heap more.
  20. We got some stuff in our new tank... One day when I'm not playing with it (the tank!) I'm gonna learn how to 1) take decent pictures 2) if that fails learn how to edit the photos! Only got MHs over 2/3 of the tank so far...

  22. Perhaps...who can predict the future? The "what would have happened if I hadn't done something" question! I know the patterm of WS 'coming back' on a regular cycle, hence why the PBT is in my quarantine tank. Nothing seemed to change except the latest generation of WS. He's been as clean as a whistle (where did that expression come from?) for over 6 weeks. 'Proof' enough for me to invest in a bigger UV unit for the main tank.
  23. Not very scientific but I ran a 11w UV unit on a 200 litre tank and got 'total' elimination of visible whitespot on tang within a few days and it hasn't been back since. It got it reasonably regular before then.Got me thinking they do something useful! You might lose a few pods but also consider that some reckon that whitespot are also most active and 'aggressively' seeking fish at night. They even say fish 'roost' at night in a similar spot to where they dropped the parasites earlier in the cycle which then emerge from the substrate and jump back on the host. But I cruise all sorts of sites so ya just don't know the credibility of some things...
  24. Congrats Ru! Just make sure thats the only thing reproducing in the new house!
  25. Hey Tom/Ru I think I was the one that started that rumour, but like a lot of rumours what I actualy said was: People kept misquoting Bill Clinton too... Rumour two: I ain't ever seen one of our shrimps go near our clowns nevertheless try to clean one! Tom, if you are going to treat your clown - do it quick! (marine velvet like jetski says probably) but it sounds like it may already have secondary infection.
