What fish are suitable as tankmates for discus??? I currently have 3 discus, 10 cardinal and neons mixture, 3 pepper corys. I would like to get something to eat the leftover food, and algae if possible. How about Kuhli Loaches? Or clown loaches???

I have a couple of Java ferns that have black algae growing on them, now can i get rid of this?

OK, I have made a spray bar for my jebo tank to go inside the tank where the water comes back into the tank after going through the filter, it is PVS downpiping - do I need to do anything special to this other than wash it thoroughly before putting it in the tank???

Yep I think I will go with a spray bar....I am off to hardware to pick up some pipe.

Yep I have a stocking over it, I have also tried moving the inlet to the side of the tank but it hasnt helped.

Thanks Blue... The pH of the tap water is 7.0, I am in auckland. I havent checked the Nitrate level only nitrite level, will get a test kit today.. I normally do a 20% water change on Tuesday then again on Sunday. The only thing I have added to the tank in the last few days was some Flourish for the plants, then I lost 2 corys the next day....

Is it possible to hinder the amount of water the impeller takes up. I have a 143.3L tank and discus in it, but they dont seem to like the current in the tank - where the water comes back into the tank after going through the filter on the top of the Jebo, is there anyway I can slow the reduce the amount of water that comes back into the tank??? I was told to put a stocking over the impeller but then the gunk (food, leaves, etc ) all get stuck to it. I also have a Fluval 204 external cannister filter in operation in the same tank, which is great as I can control the intake/output of water therefore slowing the current

The tank is 143.3L, water changes 20% twice a week, i was told by a local pet store that the best water for discus is between 6-6.5 pH. Is this not correct?? I have 2 discus, 3 pepper corys, 6 cardinals, 4 neons. A few java ferns and a couple of amazon swords.

Sorry should have mentioned, I have a huuge piece of driftwood, and also run peat fibre in the middle of my fluval filter. What else can I do to get it down? How often should I change the peat fibre?

Ok so my discus tank pH is reading 7.0. How can I get this down? Do I just do a water change Ammonia levels @ 0 Nitrite level 0.1 So far 2 corys have died

Hi DJ Its not that sucking the water in thats a problem, I have siphoned many containers of petrol (??), but the problem is refilling the tank, before I had discus in there I used to just grab the hose and fill it up then throw in some ager, but I am not soo sure about doing that nw.

Wow, see I thought you had to let it sit overnight in a container, then heat it to the correct temp, then siphon out the water from the tank, add the heated water to the tank, then add water ager. As I couldnt get the water from the bucket of aged water to the tank through siphoning it, I had to transfer it using buckets. So cold tap water is OK, with a little hot in it to take the chill off then add ager? It all seemed to take soooo long, and honestly it took longer to clean the floor up than it did to clean my daughters room!

has anyone thought about using one of those new flo and go plastic containers.

So how if you have a tropical tank, do you use hot tap water? and has anyone thought of using the gravel cleaner that connects to the tap and has a knob on it to adjust the flow, they are roughly 80.00 from pet shops

What is the easiest way to do this for discus. I have just spent the most part of an hour doing it, and only changed 30% and most of that was on the floor! Can you use hot tap water or not?

Not sure how old they are but they have all their colour and are roughly 6cm wide.

I have just bought 2 discus, I am currently feeding them COlourbits, bloodworms and tropical flakes, but was told to feed them shrimp is this true?

Yep I have just bought one of the new marina digital temp thingies with alarms for temp high and low. However I will head out to shop tomorrow to get another heater just in case! also when doing water changes do I have to let the water sit (tap water) for a period of time? Obviously I need to heat it to the correct temp for discus (28C?), Do i test it for anything? Or add anything to the tap water. I generally just chuck it in from the hose, but I am thinking that after shelling out that much for discus today, this may not be such a good idea!! Also can anyone tell me if it is normal for discus to hide at the back f the tank> I bought 2 home today and one is happy to come out from behind the driftwood now and again but the other one just hides.

Do I need two heaters in my tank? I have a Jebo r375 (143.3L) with a 200w heater in there at the moment, and I have 2 discus, 6 cardinals, 4 pepper corys, 5 neons, a couple of chinese algae eaters. ann some live plants, the temperature gauge (digital) says 27 C but not sure if I should have 2 or 1 heater????
