Catfish

  1. I have some King Tigers which have great looking tails... I don't see much else of them. I've had them a couple of weeks now and they just don't eat. Ive tried shrimp pellets, cichlid crumbles, flake food, bloodworms... they just don't seem interested. How long would it typically be before they settle in and start to eat? I'm putting food in at lights out and in the morning the food is still there. I know they can take a little while to settle, but should I be concerned?

..found 2 fry in the internal filter  About 1.5cm so probably about 10-14 days old? I think its the biweekly cold waterchanges from the taps that did it. I havent had any fry from them in over a year

Hey Every pleco & catfish I have owned hasn't lasted more than 6 months in my tank. I have a Juwel Vision 260L and put those cool 3D rock backgrounds on it. Started growing some really yuk reddy/brown hairy type algae and all my other fish seem to be amune to it except all my algae eaters have died. Our water comes direct from the river (farm water). So I thought those backgrounds were harbouring disease or something so I threw them out and the water seems much clearer. Is there a type of alage that is poisonous to catfish etc?? thanks alot

  5. I've had the BN for a week now and since he's been in the tank , the kuhlis have become shy. As soon as they come out , the BN comes right over and pushes in amongst them and they freak out and go back into hiding. He will nudge them and flick them with his tail. Not sure if he's trying to be social or just mean or even territorial. I haven't seen them dance at all since BN has been in the tank :-( Everything I've read suggests that they should get along fine so was wondering what other peoples experiences are. Am now thinking of moving him to the 22L tank with a betta but that might be too small for him. He's about 2.5cm at the moment. I really want to g…

I have a 4' tank (325L). It will have 3 pictus cats in the bottom half. I am looking for a suitable tankmate. People have suggested a cichlid - but which one? Also I was thinking of a red tail black shark as an option... What do y'all suggest?

Chased our preschool pleco out of his spot today so i could get a decent look at him, hardly ever see him, and he has these funny lumpy things on the side of his mouth. They weren't there a couple of weeks ago, and they don't look like bristles on a bristlenose, plus they're only on one side. Any suggestions what they are?

Is it ok to use plant lead anchors to wrap around a piece of food for my Bristlenose and Kuhli. I was wondering about lead poisoning as they will be nibbling around the edges.. and for that matter to have lead in a tank at all. I just used a piece tonight to weigh down a small piece of pumpkin. Otherwise my Miss Piggy guppy attacks it and it floats all around the tank while she disintegrates it. She eats everything in sight.

I spotted one of these at the fish shop and was keen on it but they only had one. Almost brought it to add to my group of misfits (9 albinos, 3 peppered's and a sterbai) but thought it would be better in a group of there own. Does anyone on here keep/breed this variety?

Hi I saw this short clip on youtube - there seems to be some debate over what it is so I thought I would ask for some of you plec experts to have a go ? Whatever it is it looks stunning :-)

Recently there was a pair of gold nuggets for sale on trademe. After some research and good advice from a forum member I decided to take the punt and buy them. They are not a proven pair but have been living together in the same tank for quite some time without fighting, the photo's on the auction looked like a male and female but were not great shots. I will post some pics later in the week when they arrive :bounce: :bounce: Any info that anyone can provide from personal experience would be great

I have 2 chocolate zebra hypans and have no idea how to sex them. I was thinking I should take some pics and post them here for all you catfish fiends out there to determine what they are. What pics/angles/info do you need? I'll try to get some pics of them over the next few days.

At long last my pair of red whips have gotten jiggy :bounce: I have done some looking into raising the fry and it would appear they are tricky to keep alive, what's the secret boys and girls? I am getting conflicting advice from the web and would like to hear from someone who has actually raised them successfully a few times. Owen

Not sure if this is a stoopid question or not - I am fairly new to keeping fish. I got a couple of cory's today, I am concerned about the smaller of the two. The dorsal fin looks different - the thicker looking bone appears to be unattached to the rest of the fin... almost looks like the sail has come away from the mast? Is this normal or has it been ripped? Will it be problematic?

Hey guys, Just wanting to know if it is normal for My Golden Bristlenose to get a pinkish nose? I have 3 babies about 4-5cm and 2 of them have a pink nose and when you look closer it just looks like lots of blood running through their veins in the nose. They are just doing their normal thing but looked realy Pink. All the other fish are fine, if their was anything wrong with the water the discus are first to show signs and they sit at the back under the filter so I don't think its the water at all. But will check tommorow. Hope you can give me some insight into this, Im not too worried at the moment cause they do look happy with all the other fish... un…
