greenterror
I have a green terror which was accidently purchased from Jensans as a Blue Acara, i was curious why he would beat up the acara (when i added one to keep him company) Turns out that my blue acara is actually a green terror, not worried about this as he is a lovely fish and really owner responsive (comes out from wherever he is in the tank when i walk in the room. Now , i have been looking for another green terror to keep him company, not sure where to get one from though cos its never in stock at Jensans. Does anyone here know where to get one from ? sharn
what sex it is (you say he but i label fish certain sexes if i dont know hehe)? if its a male dont get another male, chances are one will kill the other, they dont have 'terror' in their name for nothing  perhaps ask if they can order a sexable one in of the opposite sex and see how that works out? if he is beating up an acara i would probably move the acara out, theyre not massive fish and GT's can pack a punch if they want to. they are absolutley stunning fish (on my wanted list lol), dont have any pics we can drool over by any chance?
greenterror
Thanks for the replies guys, yea i m not too sure whether my he is a he, i mean its still young so doesnt have that colour intensity yet, but its gettting more colourful by the day, i have some old pics which doesnt really do him justice, lol, ill post them here for now. Oh about the poor acara, um, ....yea, no comment, do you honestly think it would have survived for a single night? Weird though, its tank mates are a red tailed shark, bristlenoses, clowns, chineese algae eater, kulhi loaches and a fantail GUPPY, believe it or not lol. he doesnt let the red tailed shark anywhere near the guppy. I think GTs are very intelligent fish http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~nitleshkumar
greenterror
sorry, the link in the previous post might not work, try this one instead http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~nitleshkumar
sharn
chances are that he will turn on the other fish once he hits puberty, im not sure what size that is generally. i dont think a smaller acara would last very long in a GT tank depending on the size of the GT of course. once he gets a bit of size on him i would probably move out the guppy, algae eater and khulis (they might be ok if theyre really secretive), most of the others will probably have to be moved out once hes able to fit them in his mouth, or even nearly in his mouth. i have seen a few successful tanks with tank mates for GT's, they are mainly larger/faster fish and the tanks are always 400L+, it seems GT's wont play nice if they dont have all the room they want
becc4
I have female green terror (gold saum). She is in with angels, severums, dwarf gouramis, loaches and kribensis. The only fish she has ever had a problem with was a poor ol pleco, so he went to antoher home. She is the boss of the tank but there is plenty of space. She did have a partner, but he died after their first sucessful spawning. GReat fish.
greenterror
wow, nice to know that GT's and kribs can live together, i think i am just being very conservative now after what the GT has done to the acara, a jaguar and a geophahus which was twice its size. they sure live up to their name , thats for sure. do you happen to have a pic of your femail GT? i call him , a he, but i m not really sure yet,lol
becc4
sorry don't have a pic of my GT,my camera doesn't like the tank and doesn't focus well, I need more practice.
sharn
i beleive the gold saums are fake GT's? sort of a GT lookalike... unsure if there are any differences in behaviour or if we actually have both true and fake GT's in the country or just one type. greenterror- sounds like youve got a cutie on your hands, theyre not normally tough enough to take out jags- 'hes' a keeper- nasty fish rule! 8) you should be able to find some pics of the different sexs on google
greenterror
hi again guys, yea , i know ive got a keeper this time and i will be keeping him/her as long as i can or as long as he lives, lol, hes already in a 200litre tank so that wont be a problem but am planning on going big in the future. i ve been keeping fish since i was a kid, started off with keeping them in the bottle, lol, had um some fatalities, and now i think i am somewhere oh yea, theres something weird, i mean with all the fish that hes had fights with and killed, um hes really friendly with them until, either they nudge him or come close to him or his beloved guppy, lol, i dont know whats the story with him and the guppy. Oh and he seems to tolerate all sorts of bottom feeders. Oh guys another thing, does your GT change colour like in seconds? or is my eyes playing tricks, happens esp when displaying agression, he gets like darkish green , nearly black ?? sharn
dont worry about the colour changing, they do it all the time with their moods, its only if they stay the 'wrong' colour for a long time that youd wana worry about it
