magenta
Hi all, We really like discuss, and have wanted to get some for a while We are tentatively looking, but we don't know what variety to choose - I guess is down to personal choice? Why do people choose the varieties they choose? There are so many beautiful fish - how do you narrow it down? any advice would be welcomed TIA
sharn
its really up to you. some of the varities like snakeskins and leopards are alot more expensive. pigeon bloods, blue diamonds etc etc are often cheaper. i chose my varities because i wanted colourful. alot of people prefer to all have one type which is good for breeding (no chance of them pairing off with other colour strains). some peoples fav colour might be blue so they get lots of blue diamonds. some people might get all 'natural' coloured discus like the browns or tefes etc to fit in with a natural biotope they might create. have a browse thru www.simplydiscus.com they might have some pics somewhere that might help you decide. alot of strains they have we dont though good luck with your decision and dont forget to read up
magenta
Thanks for that Sharn. I've joined that site - its realy helpful. What types do you have Sharn? Our LFS has Red Turquoise about 4 cm long - I'm pretty tempted by them... Still, I want to rebuild the tank they are for first - I might have to admire them from a distance at the moment. Faran
I have tooo many discus and love all the different colour strains. As far as which strain to choose, it's like asking what colour car you should buy. Completely personal preference. Your tank looks like a LOVELY home for them (the AR120) and it's very well presented. Keeping discus with Angels is discouraged but not impossible, you just need to keep in mind that angels are one of many places that discus can get intestinal worms from. This is treated by deworming your discus with worming pills just as you worm a cat or dog. With discus you can take it easy and do water changes twice a week but daily water changes are recommended for optimal growth and health. Good luck and enjoy! They're definitely worth the effort and price!
