GeeTee
I am just after some stocking info for my 55 gal. I have 4 cobalt blue(4f,male coming), 3 flameback(1m,2f) at the moment.(I know, different lakes) So I have blue and red, yellow. Just wandering what else will go with these fish and with a little bit different colour. Have been to the lfs's around here and there really isn't anything that catches my eye,so I need some ideas so I can possibly order some fish. Although a different blue I am looking at Maingano. Some Lake Tang's maybe???? Or don't mix any other lake type in to the tank?
herefishiefishie
A colony of electric yellows, demasoni, M.estherae{red zeb, pulu point}, M.Barlowi & Maingano too, would look good. Whatever colony you go for, I wouldn't make it any bigger than 4, otherwise overcrowding & fighting, as in males fighting over territories, will be a big problem. And somewhere quiet for the females to hide could be a problem too. Just have to be careful, I have found victorians can be a bugger to keep with mbunas. Well its really up to the males of whatever species as to how they all get along. Do a google search on malwai cichlids, look through some galleries. If you see anything you like, put their names up. I will let you know what is around, if I think they will work.....Brad i am sure will add his 2 cents too. I am sure the lfs you deal with, would deal with a couple of particular types of wholesalers. I will let you know if they are on their lists too, therefore you should be able to work something out with your lfs. Good Luck with the search, have fun. ps; What part of NSW are you in? GeeTee
Yeah,I like the johanni, can you sex them by colour from an early age?
ryanjury
I got mine big but yes you can sex them best bet is to look here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=760 scroll through the pics the second one shows a young male and female... It is probably not a good idea to keep more than one male in a 55gal though they are pretty nasty to each other and your supposed to have a few females too cuz the males are nasty to them as well.. GeeTee
Yeah I use that site for species alot,it's very good. I would only go for 1 male as I already have 4 blue fish in my tank and am after the orange/yellow colour. It's good that they are mostly black to get away from the blue a bit. Need to get some ordered in..
ryanjury
You could try red zebras if you've already got alot of blue in your tank females are orange and males are closest to pink..
GeeTee
I'm finding it hard to get anything that isn't in the shop at the moment. Can't even get a male cobalt blue. Tank might stay as is for a while unfortunately. AUSSIE MEMBERS You don't know of any online fish suppliers,I might have better luck? GeeTee
Finally got a male Cobalt Blue on Sunday after months of trying to get one, went to work Monday everything good, came home Monday arvo can't find him. After searching the tank I see a tail sticking out of the rocks,he was stuck. Been chased in there i'd say. All but dead got him out ,in seperate tank treated him and yes died that night. Looked for months to find it and had it for just over 24 hours. Wasn't meant to be. Might get rid of the blues and go for something different.
