Just put my O in a tank with a large Plec and a couple of B/N should the B/N be OK, sometimes looks like the O is stalking them and theyre hiding all the time now (used to sim around heaps. Should I give them time to adapt or move thembefore they get wasted

Any thoughts????

If they're decent sized BNs your Oscar will NOT be happy if he gobbles one. They have spikes in every direction and will most likely be promptly spat out if gobbled. They could be perfectly fine co-inhabiting the same tank but this adjustment period could be potentially deadly to the BNs, Oscar.... or both

agreed with Blue. an oscar can easily fit a large male BN in its mouth no sweat, and even if it isnt big enough they will still try :-? if it goes in head first and chucks its gill spikes out you could up having to remove it yourself which could potentially kill both :( she could just be checking them out but oscars are vesy nosey fish and often prefer to try sample any new fish that it happens to find  if you provide alot of hiding spots they should be ok, but if she does get one be prepared to do some amature surgery lol.

the larger pleco should be fine, most of the time they get a bit of attitude and stick up for themselves and theyve got some good armour on them.

good luck and have fun with your lovely lady :D

tHE pLEC PUSHES THE o OUT OF THE WAY IF ITS TRYING TO GET AROUND IT, PRETTY COOL TO WATCH.

ANOTHER Q; HAVENT SEEN THE O EAT YET IS IT NORMAL TO GO OFF FOOD WHEN INTRODUCED TO A NEW HOME?

HAVE SOME BEEF HEART LITTLE CHUNCKS A BABY MOLLY AND SOME FLOATING PELLETS BUT NO BITES?

dont know for O but not at all unusual for a lot of fish. See if you can find out what it was eating with the last owner. Also try some live food, you could try catching some of those pest fish in the streams, gambusa? They look like white guppies. They are on the pest list so no one is going to be the least upset if a few get eaten.

 you will soon find O's are some of the most sulky fish ever  its not uncommon for them to sulk for weeks, sit on the ground etc when first introduced even though theres nothing wrong (if you hide and sneakily watch you will probably see her perk up when she thinks your not around lol) some will even get sulky after a tank clean.

heres a link to a great recipe, i use it myself and its really good, ive adjusted it to suit me and it can be their main staple. http://www.theoscarspot.com/smf/index.p ... 062.0.html

crickets, worms, locusts, prayingmantis's etc are all good to add in if you can find them around your house 8)

me too mystic  frank ate a kribensis tail end first and he often keeps things that are too big for him to swallow in his throat 'for later', this poor fish was still alive in there :o so i actually had to chase him around the tank with my net (and then my hand cause the net didnt make him spit it out) and get the fish and kill it.

i didnt put it in there for him to eat, that was back in the day i thought Frank was friendly to smaller fish

oscars are some hilarious fish when it comes to their temperments, you will soon find she has preferences for certain food containers etc

Frank hates my pleco too

put some more hiding spots in for the pleco, even though theyre 'armoured' a O could make light work out of it if it really really wanted to. what does she do at night time? thats normally when my O fights with my pleco (often get woken up by them two) and just wondered if she also has a go at yours then. you probably wont need another tank for the pleco (im assuming this is the big one?), as long as its got somewhere the O cant get into it should be ok

should be, males can get agro and i normally suggest females with O's. as long as hes got a spot the O cant get into he should be sweet. if he has babies with him you might find the O might get attacked a bit, probably wont do too much damage as long as the O gets the message
