Closed loops

I have been mulling over designs for a closed loop and would be interested to see what some of yours look like.

Please post any pics or schematics of your closed loops, especially what you use as an intake filter/screen. This will be retrofit so drilling is not an option.

Cheers.

I thought pretty much all closed loops were drilled? It could obviously be done out of the water, but isnt that the point of them?

Streams (or seios :D ) would be what your after?

my screen is just pressure pipe with a cap on the end and lots of holes drilled, also used to attach rock to. I run two loops have two holes in the middle of the tank and an outlet at each end. all under rock so you cant see them

Same, i have two submersable aquaone pumps 2200L/h each one at each end of the tank and have used pressure pipe with an end cap and cut slots in it or drilling will do the same, to make the pipe fit on the pump intake i heated the pipe up so that it was soft and pushed it on the intake lip of the pump let it cool down and away you go.

they've been working for two years now and still going stronge.

Sweet. That is along the lines of what I was thinking. I have been looking at this design pretty seriously http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html as I already have a SCWD with plumbing in place. All I will have to do is assemble the intake and hook it up to the pump (King 4). The intake will all be 25mm but the scwd and plumbing into the tank are all at 20mm. Not ideal, but already in place so good enough.

How do you all prime your loops?

because my loops are under the tank fed via drilled holes there is no need to prime.

Does your king 4 have the stainless impella? if so make sure you can get to it easierly so you can take it out and clean off the rust every once in a while.
