Does this behavior mean anything?

The tank that has my red eye tetras and barbs in it:

now the red eyes do go to different areas of the tank but their "hang out is the back" HOWEVER, the barbs they go to different areas as well, but they seem to stay at one end of the tank more, could this mean anything? At first, because I had noticed that times they (usually just a couple at a time) were hanging around, nose down by the heater. So, I thought perhaps I needed to turn up the heat a notch, so I did!

I have an airstone at the opposite end of tank. But, I don't think it is that strong to keep the fishies away, mind you I don't get in the tank to check :-?

But, I was just wanting to get peoples opinions on this?

Perhaps they've just decided on their territories. I've got an angel fish that has always been at one corner of the tank and I've just noticed he's moved to the opposite corner. He does nothing but hang round there all day but he's the first out when I feed them.

There probably are 'micro-climates' in the tank - with slightly different temps, current etc. so you could be right, that might be the reason.

I've always thought it would be interesting to have a very long tank (20ft) and have the water going in at both ends at different temps. Maybe 22 at one end and 28 at the other. Hopefully they would mix in the middle to be about 25ish. It would be fascinating to see which fish hung out in the different temps.

Cheers

Jude

Just to have a tank that size...WOW :o

Since I've started with the barbs, lost, ummm...maybe 5 all together :( , I'm always trying to count the tigers, but the little buggers will not cooperate, do you think I should put them in front of the TV to watch Sesame Street!

They sure get to the front of the tank in hurry when they see me coming, so I don't think it's a problem other than I like when they go everywhere, more fun to watch.

They do go to other areas of the tank but where they seemed to "hang out" more down the end of the heater I was wondering if that had anything to do with it.

Before I fed them tonight, I even put my hand in both ends to see if I could tell 1) if much difference in temp, didn't appear to be and 2) to see if I could tell if the airstone & the filter were causing too much...ah...movement?, but again, nothing that was obvious anyway!

Thanks Jude :bow: and...oh...let us know when you get the 20' tank  :bounce: You should just turn that interest into reality  :o
