ynot Posted March 15, 2006 Report Share Posted March 15, 2006 8) can anyone advise me if i can use a hang on tank filter as a bottom mount filter, e.g change the hoses around/lengthen so it works like a canister one under tank in cupboard,i realise that if i can i will need too use the connections supplied then add the hoses and bends where needed,many thanks,tony. sharn Posted March 15, 2006 Report Share Posted March 15, 2006 the HOB (hang on the back) filters are not water tight so i dont think you would be able to run it as a canister unless you sealed it all up. might work, worth a shot if youve got a spare lying around, dont wana purchase one only to chop it up and have it not work lol. getting a canister would be easier and more beneficial IMO, they hold alot more media than HOB's so have alot more beneficial bacteria for your tank. if you do go the chopping path and it works be sure to post a 'how to' in our DIY section, be a interesting read Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

HOB or HOT filters are designed to work with very little head. If budget is a concern... trademe is your friend. I find HOT's useful as a backup or for running carbon or other chemical filtration.
