Info on sand beds.

Sand beds are great, but are best left alone. They harbor huge populations of microbes, many of which are opportunistically, indirectly, or directly pathogenic to aquarium inhabitants (and humans). The changes in redox that occur in sand beds, along with disruption of anoxic pockets that may contain hydrogen sulfide, wreak havoc on all manner of water column parameters and can result in the death of virtually every fish and invertebrate in the tank. They are not nutrient bombs, but do need to be understood for proper function in an aquarium.

A few inconsistencies in there. Spattering of reality along with a good lot of pure crap. Is my assessment. Just watch your sources.

He hardly talked about adding vodka- it was a sand bed discussion mainly. I'm still gonna go with a dsb in the fuge, I have heard differing suggestions about the depth though - he uses 6, I have heard one guy say 6 minimum - 8 or more optimal, then the norm seems to be 4:o . I might go with 6,

I dont have to worry that much about the legendary timebomb thing.
