gregb
Is there a speciel time of the year for Ich?
cracker
No, your tank will have had it anyway. The elevated heat by 1 or 2 degrees has probably stressed the fish slightly causing their immune system to reduce. This in turn has probably allowed ICH to take hold. Try and stabilise the temperature at 24 degrees to slow down the cycle. Try to get some Salifert "Stop Parasite" which is due to arrive in NZ shortly. Contact "Reef" to find out where and when it will be available. Once you are treating with "stop parasite", slowly raise temp to 26-27 degrees to speed the cycle to help the medication work quicker. Good luck.
Pegasus
So is there a difference in the Fresh Water WS and the Marine Version..? If so.. How do they differ..? Is the cycle the same...? One should bear in mind that any parasite of this nature is feeding off the reserves of the fish.. so the quicker it is removed, the better. Bill. suphew
Same family differnet bug, life cycle etc the same. From memory there are actually 3 different types of marine ICH, not sure how many types of fresh water. Anyway I guess the point is, that you cant tranfer fresh water ICH to a salt water tank and viseversa
Pegasus
From memory there are actually 3 different types of marine ICH, not sure how many types of fresh water. There's only one FW type as far as I know.. the Ichthyophthirius Multifiliis... but I "do" know for certain that even those that have not added anything to their tank for months or longer, can still get it. Stress and change of conditions seems to be the main culprit, and some of the experts in fish diseases claim that it is present in all FW tanks, but will only attack if the resistance of the fish is lowered to some degree. You say: Anyway I guess the point is, that you cant tranfer fresh water ICH to a salt water tank and viseversa Have you "actual" proof of this..? Bill. lduncan
You say: Have you "actual" proof of this..? Bill. I remember reading that the difference in osmotic pressure it too much for these single cell parasites, an they either shrivel up, or explode, if moved from one environment to another.
