Loopy
Cn some one tell me how i would know if i have Xiphophorus variatus - Variatus platy OR Xiphophorus maculatus - Platy. i am not refering to any particular fish of mine i am just wondering what the main difference is. There must be something different between them both for there to be a name for each right?
livebearer_breeder
There just different sub-species. to my knowlege variatus has a multitude of different paterned bodies with solid colour fins of varies types. Im also under the impression that the common platy in NZ is just the maculatus, which are more solid body colours, very little patterning, from what ive read at any rate.
