Gaza
Hi, I am setting up a quarantine / grow out tank for 6-8 small Discus 160ltrs bare bottom, plastic plants. I have used part water from established tank and part fresh with added cycle. I soaked filter cartridges in established tank as well as putting some gravel from this tank in the new filter which is an internal Fluval. The new tank has been going for 5 days the last 2 days with two goldfish-that are doing fine. I have kept temp at 65 for them but will raise this for the Discus. The ph is 6.8, ammonia reads 0, nitite reads 0, nitrate reads 0. My question is-has the tank cycled this quickly ? or are things going to go pear shaped, say next week. Should I wait longer or is it ready. your thoughts
HummingBird
If cycling was occuring then you'd have some nitrates. How often are you doing water changes?
Gaza
Hi, I made a 10 % change on the forth day, this is day 5 when readings were taken
Gaza
By the way I'm using aquarium pharmaceuticals test kits. The nitrate ones first step has a reading of 0ppm ( where my test sat) but the next step is 5.0, so perhaps I do have nitrates but doesnt register on this particular colour card. Should I be using some other test that is more accurate, or am I fine.
