Pablo
does anyone have her book? does she advocate substrate heating? have this also posted in DIY, apologies.
piscator
Hi Pablo, Yes, there are two mentions of heater cables in her book (p 51 and p 140). She states that substrate heating cables increase circulation and therefore reduces the negative impact of allelochemicals, the toxic substances given off by some plants to inhibit the growth of competitive species. She says they: "continuously 'wash' the substrate and may prevent substrate poisoning". However, it seems she sees them as usually part of a hi-tech system, rather than her natural aquarium system. The book is a great read if you want to set up a natural tank. It is one of the few based on scientific research and therefore also of interest if you are a hi-tech enthusiast. Pablo
Cheers Mark, I like the sound of the concept she proposes so I'll proceed with the plan of substrate heating, for my new tank set up, think I'll order the book as well, Thanks.
