Goldie's Guppies

Pegasus

Recommended Posts

Hi Goldie,

Like to hear more about those guppies.... got any pics :)

My solitary female has no tail colour whatsoever.... boo hoo...

Just looking now and she seems to be a little less yellow today, and tending more toward a pale lemon curd colour he he.

Still... this guppy thing takes time if you want results, and I suppose I can enhance the colour through some good selective breeding.

I suppose yellow guppies are nothing new (out of touch a bit) but rearing your own line of a good strain is always a great pleasure to me.

We have a nice strain of Sailfin Mollies that I am hoping to improve the colour of, mainly in the fringing on the top of the fin, as it is a very pale yellow at the moment, but ...mmmm.... red, blue, green, or a decent yellow would be nice he he.

Really hard to find a decent fish that hasn't been crossed with something or other these days, or cross/interbred that much that it produces mostly rubbish.

The blue tail ones you mention sound choice..... have you any fry with the blue tails, and are they males.... delta... veil.... lyrtail...?

What with the Angels, Guppies, Mollies, Platies, Cats, and hopefully Discus... plus all the other fish and stuff I have on my mind with my fishroom and the forums, I'm not too sure which end of the tank I'm swimming in at the moment :)

I'm retired, but this is getting to be almost a full time occupation ..... but isn't it GREAT he he.

Happy Days :)

ssure is great Pegasus. The guppies I have were spawned by the adults I got for another member in the fish club. I know a little (enuff to get me into trouble :D )

The fry are growing at a rapid rate although still too tiny to completely distinguish details of colour etc. Are you interested in them. ??

Who else out there has guppies at the moment??

Hi Goldie,

Got your PM.... Thanks.

Don't know why, but I thought for some reason you were in the North Island..... Interested yes, but I don't think the fish would survive the trip.

I recently enquired about having some Discus sent up from your area and couldn't find anyone to ship them.

Hopefully I am getting some flown up possibly next month.

May have to just wait a few weeks and see what my one drops, or possibly one from another batch we have.

Thanks so much for the offer, it would have been nice.

Guppy keepers....

Cees would be the best one to give you a few names.

Peter McLeod is also doing some line breeding I believe.

There was talk of starting an NZ Guppy Society, but I haven't heard the latest.

Regards,

Bill (Pegasus)

In reply to Goldie, Disneyworld breeds guppies :) - but my "stock" of the last few months has been a huge disappointment, I bred a colourful female with a beautiful, huge male, and they produced deformed babies. Never thought I would see something as sad as this in my breeding days, they have unfortunately all become protein for my Lake Malawis (murderer!)

I have been trying what Pegasus is currently doing: endeavour to breed more colourful females. Colourful males are relatively easy, but I have found the NZ stock a little bit wanting in the female colouring, a bit sexist, don't you think

Anyone has any suggestions on improving the female stock (I'm talking guppies here, people), lets hear it...
