livebearer_breeder
look up on the internet, there is some really helpful stuff on there about breeding livebearers. My suggestion is bascially to heavily plant the tank to provide hiding places for the fry, Watch the female carefully for signs of realise, one thing to check is that females who are dropping will always have an open vent. there is know way to tell when a livebearer will drop, its generally 4-6 weeks apart, but the female can hold them back instead of releasing them if she feels stressed. Feed your adult fish lots of good foods and regularly clean the water and keep the tank perameters good. Shae
livebearer_breeder
fry can eat flake at birth, but i suggest microworms or BBS as a better food. remove fry as soon as you see them swimming between the plants, the parents will eat them otherwise. Good luck Shae
Pegasus
Well you did the first thing right.. by coming here and asking a few questions Hi there purefishbreeder.. Welcome to the Fishroom You can tell when your Guppies or Swordtails are ready to give birth by the dark colouring around the anal region. This is the area where the fish passes wastes, and it will get darker as she gets nearer to her time to drop the fry. Guppies will drop young around every four to five weeks normally.. but if your fish are stressed out.. then she could hold on for much longer than this. If these are your first fish and first tank, then do a bit of reading here and ask for more info if you are not sure about setting a new tank up. Would be good also to post in the Welcome section and meet a few of the members. Regards, Bill.
