bigfishhead
I have 5cm coral sand at the bottom of the tank. Every few weeks I have to clean the section between the sand and the tank glass. As it always have brown color algae grow in that section. Do I feed too much so my FX5 cannot consume and converts all the waste that fish produced? Does anyone of you have the same issue with algae between the substrate and glass? What do you do with it?..... I can obviously just leave it but it look really bad when the light turns on.... BTW.. My 20ish BN does not do anything on cleanning glass... they only interested in rocks and draftwood. I am thinking to move them out of the tank....
Guest
Just google the issue and found regular glass clean and water change is the way to go. Which is what I do any way..(weekly tank clean and 30% water change). Also some post advice use OTTO fish or snails to keep tank clean. Does that sounds a good idea to put otto and snails in a Cichlids tank?.... I think otto fish is community fish?
ryanjury
Ottos would get eaten by most africans because they are small fish.. Bristlenoses are a good alternative, however I don't think they will get between the substrate and glass and clean up that algae. It is just algae and takes a few mins to just wipe your finger between the glass and substrate once a week or 2 to get off.
Guest
Thanks Ryan, I think im too fuzzy on how clean my tank looks... some people call this "clean freak" ? All good. My powerhead did improve the water circulation and at least it gives extra flow and my cichlids loves it. So not a waste on 12W power 24/7... I guess I just have to reduce more fish and clean often....
