raeh1
I set up my tank about 1.5 months ago and have two clown fish The tank size is 200 litres. 4 foot long. I wish to add a blue tang in the future. Will this work? How long should I wait to add the fish?
wasp
Yes it will work, but get a small one. Nemo and Dory, right?
raeh1
Sorry Regal Tang was what I was meaning...... The blue with yellow tail. Like finding nemo.... Although thats not my aim. I beleive the colour contrasts to be impressive. With the 4 fish I am aiming to have being, the 2 clowns ("bangers & mash"), one regal tang, and eventually a manadrin fish or strawberry gramma. In 200 litre tank is this overstocking????
chimera
no, about right. wouldnt have anymore fish than that though - they need to be comfortable eventually a manadrin fish im glad you said eventually
petplanet
You can have heaps more fish. My tank is 280 litres. 3 clowns, 4 tangs (none are small), Flame Angel and a 20cm Wrasse. Just don't rush it.
chimera
You can have heaps more fish Of course you can, but it doesnt mean they are 'comfortable'. Also, your nutrients are likely to build up faster because of a higher load which = more frequent water changes and generally less stable water chemistry (meaning things could go bad faster). Stocking also depends on whether its fish only vs keeping corals. A reef tank (specifically SPS) requires extremely 'lower levels' of phosphates and nitrates than a FO tank. Just think of it like putting an average family into an average size house (albeit we can go outside) Now put 3 average size families into the same house... would you live there? No, didnt think so. petplanet
I have assumed that they do not want an SPS tank just a dirty old LPS softy tank like mine with a bit of life in it. My guys seem pretty comfortable.

suphew
Having never kept one I'm no expert but wouldn't it be very difficult to keep a Manadrin in a tank that size given their feeding requirements?
Pies
You can have heaps more fish. My tank is 280 litres. 3 clowns, 4 tangs (none are small), Flame Angel and a 20cm Wrasse. Just don't rush it. My tank is 1400 litres + over 1000 litres in sump. 15 fish, will go to 16 with a Powder Blue Tang. Over crowding a tank is a mistake and will make maintaing the tank muc more difficult. Thats without even starting on the fishes 'happiness'. Having never kept one I'm no expert but wouldn't it be very difficult to keep a Manadrin in a tank that size given their feeding requirements? I wouldn't reccomend a mandarin in a tank that size, especially so because of the high fish load (all competing for the same food). Just my thoughts.
