SAFFABOY
Hey guys, I have this "one time" offer of glass ,at a really great price.I want to build a tank 1200X500X600 HIGH. The price is for unpolished edges however. So basically just cut and that's it.Could i some how sand the edges with a belt sander and take off those rough edges? The price is almost $90 a linear meter to polish an edge.So i'm wondering if it's detrimental to have them polished ,or if i can do a DIY on them?? Any advice???? Pegasus
You can take the "actual" sharp edge off with a piece of sandstone rock, but you won't get a polished finish... even using a sanding belt. Consider the situation before you splash out. Will the tank have a surround..? If so, then the edges won't show. You could also use the 12mm corner moulding in wood or plastic, as this gives a real nice finish, or if you want to be a bit flash... then polished or anodised aluminium corner moulding would look real neat. Pies
My tank is without polished edges. Hardly worth paying the price when typically only 2 edges are visible, and using a surround hides them anyway (as bill said). I also asked a question about polished edges a whole back in regards to tank strength, Warrens reply was more strength without them (the iregular surface is better for the silicone to adhere to or some such). Take the cheap glass and go for it. Why stop at 4 foot? Go big, go hard Good luck Pie
