cracker
Hey guys, My tank is just over four months young and has just started a third lot of brown algae growth. I am seeing definite Coraline algae growths also. Has anyone experienced three lots of brown algae crops before? My beach is going yuk again! When does this finally give up? chimera
it will continue to happen so long as there are high nutrients in your tank. i was going to say fix the source of the problem - but perhaps your tank still has a few more months to "settle down?" is your skimmer an adequate size for your tank? how much LR? are you using RODI top up? essentially you need to reduce the number of silicates in your tank - more frequent water changes, lower feeding rates (assuming its an overfeeding problem) im not too sure on the specific's of your tank? be aware that dying diatoms also add silicates to your tank so keep up good maintenance. also test your kH, if its low, increase it (8-12) to promote coralline algae growth (thus reduce diatom growth) of course, all easier said than done!
