bigfishhead
I just found today my shark seems a bit strange. Very lonely and quiet. not much movement compares to before. Stay in the corner or under rocks. I found his mouth is damaged badly. it look like he swim very fast and crash into the rock or something... I dont have sharp shape stuff in my tank, substrate is coral sand... I look at his profile and he is suit in PH between 6.5 ~7.5. I think my tank has PH 8.5. Could that be the cause makes him uncomfortable? He is one of the longest fish I kept. Almost 2 and half years. I will be very said to see him die.... Any idea? What happen to the fish if the PH is too high for them? They stop eating or something?
ryanjury
A high ph can cause all sorts of issue to fish that aren't designed to live in it.. Stress is the major one which can make the fish susceptible to all sorts of things. Do you have any pics of the damage to its mouth or can you describe it? Is it eating? ryanjury
Do you have a hospital tank? I would be removing him and taking pics and sticking him in a small tank in preparation for treating him, some salt overnight probably wouldn't hurt. bigfishhead
Well I do have another 200L tank with 10 dems fry in it. I dont think thats a good idea to put shark in there. Also I dont think it is a easy job to catch him in my 6 ft tank with lots of rocks in... I will see how he looks like tonight... ryanjury
Cool, I would probably recommend a small tank and sponge filter or something like that even if not needed now it is handy especially with cichlids when something gets a hiding.. If he is unwell then you will need to catch and treat him, hopefully he is feeling better tonight!
bigfishhead
He is ok. still swim around and come out quite often. Just his mouth is damaged pretty bad. I am pretty sure it is caused by a big fight... I will watch him closely, finger cross that he can survive during the recovery period. :smln:
