herperjosh
the school my uncle teaches at managed to supply me with a tank, air pump and old heater after the earth quake but the heater doesn't have a way of choosing the temperature and is a little 75 watt good life heater. Are these designed to be at a specific temp or something?
ryanjury
Most of the really old heaters had a separate thermostat that you had to wire in with the heating element and then you could set the temp on the thermostat.

ryanjury
Does the heater have a thermostat built into it? Or is it just the heating element?

Zayne
i would say it is one that needs a thermostat to control temp so might stay on, not 100% sure
ryanjury
You should be able to see if it has a thermostat it looks like a long silver thing with contacts on the bottom.. If it is just a heating element then it needs a thermostat but then it shouldn't be wired straight onto a plug if that is the case, does it have any wiring on it? suphew
I wouldn't use an old heater at all anyway. Most heaters fail sooner or later, one that has already been used for years then knocked about being moved is an accident waiting to happen. A cheap 100w heater will cost you $30, why risk a tank full of fish for so little cash.

ryanjury
I hope you haven't opened it.. If there were over options around the same price range then I would return the elite one and get a better one elites are rubbish..

If there were over options around the same price range then I would return the elite one and get a better one elites are rubbish.. the others were way to expensive and this is a temporary heater but it is keeping the temp constant
