burrowssj
I've got a female guppy with a gravid spot appearing and just wondering how long before she gives birth? Got her in a tank with catfish shes quite a nice female an the male is nice to. When I put her in a breeding trap both male an female stressed out so I let her out. So wondering how much time I have before she needs to be in her own tank?

BikBok
I'm asking how long AFTER I can see the gravid spot. yes I know.. but they pretty much have a gravid spot all the time as once one lot are releasd , the next lot are already developing. my females only stay clear in their gravid area for a few short days before the gravid spot is dark again and 3-4 weeks later I have new babies. So what I am saying is they will look gravid almost all of the time. It's not a good indication of how soon the babies are due. One of mine gives birth every 3 weeks. They get a very boxy square shaped front in the last few days and you'll see a white birthing canal when the drop is imminent. Separate the female when she is looking very heavy or starting to stay away from the other fish. She may swim up and down the sides of the tank if she is stressed or looking for some peace and quiet.
