Critters
Hi there. I am wanting to start up a marine tank and ideally would like to have it running in one months time (with fish in it) I am purchasing some ammonium chloride to cycle my shop freshwater tanks but am concerned as to weather it is advisable to use it in a saltwater tank as i assume it leaves nitrates in the water at the end of the cycling any advice would be very much apreciated P.S. The tank will be a 200ltr tank and I am wanting to put in live rock, an annenome and a couple clown fish
Pies
My advice would be to let nature take its course and cycle properly. I've seen a few articles about using amonia to start the cycle, but this doesn't actually cycle it, just starts of the cycle which is initially fueled by amonia. 1 month isn't a long time. Have patience. Good luck. Pie
lduncan
I agree with Pies, the ammonium chloride just kicks it off, it still takes time for the tank to cycle. The bacteria only multiply so fast. With marine (unlike freshwater) you can't really take any short cuts, it will just result in dead livestock.
