White cloud mountain minnows acting strange

I've got 12 or so minnows in a 40L(ish) tank and all of a sudden they've decided to group up in one corner at the bottom of the tank. It's been 3 days and they are still there. They don't look stressed and my water testing tells me all is okay. Temp is @ 25C and I've put a filter in to add a bit of flow but they just end up in the same spot. I had a couple of young Krib in with them but have removed them to see if that was an issue but seems to have had no effect. Feeding has slowed but they are eating a little.

Any ideas?

I have recently had minnows at this temp and they have thrived, even breeding. Prior to that I had them in a smaller tank and they started doing the same thing as you described. The only thing I changed was the direction of the water flow from the filter so maybe try adjusting that but other than that I also found it a mystery....

From what I can see they are happy from 5-27C. Some people say cooler come people say warmer. They have done most of a Christchurch winter in cold water, the coldest I saw it was about 9C. When I got my tropical tank up and running I adjusted them fairly carefully and they have been happy as larry for more than a month. I think they will end up back in cold water as I only have a couple of heaters which will soon be needed elsewhere. I think I will bring those plans forward and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice!

they are great wee fish i had some in tropical for ages as well. i have even seen them in with discus at 30 deg !

the simplest tank i ever made was a large round glass container with a rock that stuck up out of the water and had hatiora growing on it. chucked in some wcmm and away i went.

was doin a water change sometime later while under the influence when i noticed the the crud i was syphoning up were actually fry :o

older topic but my brother has 1 survivor wcmm from his dead tank, it apparently ate all its tank mates.he had kribs an guppys an minnows an then his heater died an this was the only thing left from his fish keeping, it survived the drop an continued to live in cold water until I got it.still alive an well today lol

a very hardy fish that has been from 10-28 degrees with absolutely no problems, soft water hard water dirty tanks clean tanks, in with aggressive cichlids an catfish of all sorts
