smidey
feed more then there will be no problem, i doubt it's worms & pics won't help.

ryanjury
It can point to problems with africans and is quite common.. It might be as Smidey has suggested and feeding more might help but it might be something else.. We discussed it a while ago here but didn't actually come to any conclusions.. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=45066&p=489682&hilit=cichlid+skinny#p489682
smidey
what food, how much & how often are you feeding? i feed morning & night & enough so there is a small amount of food on the bottom 30 mins after feeding. be careful if you feed this much, i have heaps of filtration so it's never been an issue for me. Matto
i have tetra color and tetra cichlid and i usually feed twice a day and the occasional seaweed bits and live fish
smidey
i recommend jbl novo rift sinking sticks as a main food for them, they may not be getting enough feeding flake. there is a jbl flake called novo vert that is also good for the africans. Matto
i just ran out of my jbl and got the tetra when they had the massive animates sale
smidey
be careful that it doesn't make them sick, i don't know if it will be ok or not. have they started getting sunken bellies since you changed to the tetra food?
Matto
no i brought some fish from a breeder and it has slowly creeped over i think ,the food is great tetra cichlid is protein 46% fat 16% fiber 3% moisture 9% phosphorus 1% and the color is protein 47.5% fat 6.5% fiber 2% moisture 6% phosphorus 1.5% and the fish love it so i dont think it will be that. :-? smidey
it might be sweet, just keep an eye on them. so they love it, as in go nuts for it when you feed it?
David R
Maybe try some of that NLS stuff? Even with prepared foods its good to feed a wide variety.
ryanjury
NLS is good but I find you have to bomb the tank out with the 1mm stuff to get big africans to get their fill but it does seem to fill them up.. Also what types of africans are you feeding? Mbuna/haps/tangs all have different food prefereances.
Matto
livingstonii ,empress and rustys in one tank and i have yellows in another .they like it and go nuts at it when i put it in but i think a mix might be better as their poo goes funny sometimes
smidey
they may be going nuts for it as they are real hungry, just a thought.
Matto
i dont like to feed them heaps because the living stonii get massive and the other fish miss out on heaps maybe i should get some smaller pellets or something?
smidey
i feed the sinking sticks which means all fish get some. i have 3 4cm altos in with 10 pembas & they don't have to fight for food as it falls to the bottom.
Matto
some of my yellows look like they have damaged fins and damage on their body's like little patches of blood showing i think
