CatBrat
I have just taken all the fry out of my fry tank which was bare bottomed and decided that I want some substrate in there. The tank had been up and running with fish for around 2 months, so with out removing anything from the tank I added the gravel. My question is does this tank need to re-cycle or will there already be enough bacteria in the tank? Cheers, CatBrat.
dan_from_nz
it depends how long the fish were out for. If the fish were out for some time then the bacterier had nothing to feed off and would start to die off. If they were only out for a couple of hours you will be fine
suphew
There's no way to guess for sure. Why not just test the water, if it seems okay just put in a couple of fish then test again after a couple of days? If you don't have test kit most LFS will test your water for free or at a low cost. livebearer_breeder
The smart thing to do would be to put in substrate from already running tanks. that way it is already full of bacteria and should be fine for the fry to go straight back into.
