Making a Viv more energy efficient

Im currently looking at ways to hold the heat in my Viv a bit better.

At the moment using a 150w heat emitter running on a repta thermostat - works well, but would like to possibly go as low as a 50w heat emitter in the future.

Its a 4ft glass viv, open top, sliding front doors. I got a pane of glass to cover 95% of the top, helped tremendously (left a gap at cool end for ventilation)

Viv is only 45cm high, and my lamps hang inside - so im saving some power via the distance away from basking area.

My latest thoughts are the ground - would running a heat mat help with the ambient temp at all? if it does then that will help at day, and hopefully means i can turn my heat emitter off at night - gets a bit cold at the mo so i leave it on (>13C)

and second one, would poly under the tank help retail heat? I have no intention of putting poly on any of the other sides though it would help. just the bottom - and then is it safe to run a heat matt between the bottom of the tank and a piece of poly?

thanks :bounce:
