oneeyedfrog
Hi, DD2 is breeding guppies, DD1 would like to try breeding tetras, and I would like my cory's to breed. We have bristlenose and GBA breeding too. So we need to get afew more tanks to condition, breed , grow out etc. What sizes do you guys use? Also would guppys ( male) eat cory eggs? Thanks
Nymox
can only comment on corys, mine breed excessively in 100+ ltrs, never seen them spawn in less.
SamH
Personally I'd breed the guppies like crazy in a 100ltr heavily planted tank, catching fry as you see them and put them in a floating net breeder. Release them back into the main tank once they're big enough or into a separate tank if you'd like to sell them. What kind of tetras? Nymox
good idea Sam, my experience is guppies need a fair bit of room and hiding places for the young to survive the male guppy. 100 ltr + really. Although, my 38 ltr I managed to get 10+ guppy fry survive with no intervention. The teeny fire eel ate his share tho. At the moment I have mine kinda cramped, well not cramped just not 100% ideal for breeding, I only get maybe 1 out of every 10 fry survive, lack of room and hiding places for them, I only let em breed for fire eel food tho so I need some control. SamH
I had mine breeding in a standard 81L 90x30x30 tank with a polysperma jungle and got between 10 and 20 each time, the female was old so she only had 2 or 3 batches. Just popped the fry into a floating breeding net if I caught them and fed them ground flake from the start.
Simian
My Cories breed in 500x300x300 tanks, keep the water pristine, I try for 2x 40-50% waterchanges per week. Good aeration is a must.
