Ktttk
I haven't posted here for a while but here are some recent pics I took of my demasonis. Hope you guys enjoy it. 8 holding females waiting to be stripped: Holding female: The fry are such piggies - they love their brineshrimp eggs. These guys are about 5 mm long. A cobalt blue fry is the odd one out! These guys are about 3-4 cm. ryanjury
do they have 5 or 6 black lines on them These ones are descended from my ones so they should be the 6 bar ones most resembling the pombo rocks variant.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=849 And Ktttk should add they are looking awesome that is one packed out fry tank.. Matto
how many dems do you have breeding ? and at what ratio?
Ktttk
do they have 5 or 6 black lines on them As Ryan has mentioned, I bought a bunch off him a couple of years ago and have added a few more along the way. From what I have seen, all the Dems in NZ are the Pombo rocks variant. Wow that is a lot of dems what do you do with them all? I try and sell them to members on these forums or TradeMe and sometimes I offload them at the local pet shops if I have too many. And Ktttk should add they are looking awesome that is one packed out fry tank.. Thanks Ryan. With the setup I've been running, I get a very high survival rate so the fry tanks are indeed becoming very crowded! how many dems do you have breeding ? and at what ratio? My breeding Dems are in my 6 foot display tank. There are 4 males and about 10 females which spit, on average, about 20-30 fry. They breed almost monthly so the fry numbers can add up pretty quickly. ryanjury
While we don't actually even have pombo rocks in the country (they were imported with no variant so we cannot give them one) some of ours resemble these.. But I have also seen 7 stipers, I brought in a batch of babies to increase the gene pool in my lot and noticed that half had 7 stripes the rest 6 and they were all from the same batch, needless to say I didn't introduce them to my lot because my theory was they have been mixed with these http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1321 which have more barring. These were still very nice fish but I knew mine threw 100% 6 bars and I didn't like the ones with lots of barring so I passed them on, it is something to bear in mind when adding new ones to a colony as there could be ones that have 6 bars and carry the genes for. Ktttk
Thanks for pointing that out Ryan. I haven't come across any that have 7 stripes but it is indeed a good idea to keep them separate. How's your breeding colony going by the way?
